If you’ve found this tutorial like me in 2024 and confused about the ties/waistband here are my top tips. Don’t even worry about cutting the waistband and adding those two little holes. I found it easier just skipping that part, and then using my buttonhole foot to sew in a hole after the waistband is done so I can see exactly where I’d want the ties to pass through. Also making the ties that passes through (that goes around your back) a bit longer so you can tighten the skirt waistband if you want. Also when sewing the ties initially, sew up one end of them so its nice and neat for the finished skirt.

Hi Sharon, made this skirt over the weekend and wearing it to work today. The tutorial was great and everything was clear, i made it almost exactly as you made it :) I am enjoying the look of the skirt while standing up, but today is windy where i am and there is a bit of a front panel flying up issue :( also when i sit down, the front panels are moving aside and exposing my thighs too much. Any solution for this, any modifications on the pattern that can help improve on this problem?

Hi! Hoping to make this soon. Couple questions - it looks like when you measure the back panel, you just do side hip, around the bum, to side hip. But when you measure for the two front panels, you measure all the way around the hips - Is that right, and why is that? I'm used to patterns that give you some kind of formula, like 1.5 x waist measurement / 2... etc.

Hello Sharon! Thank you so much for this video!!! I am a brand new sewer. Beginner of beginners. I have one question: The darts for the bum panel. You said you put them in the “1st and 3rd” sections after dividing it into 4 equal parts. I think I misunderstood you. So, are the darts entirely in the 1st and 3rd sections OR is the MIDDLE of the first dart on the line dividing the 1st and 2nd section and the second dart’s middle line between the 3rd and 4th? My darts ended up being off center because I put the first one entirely in the 1section and the second one entirely in the 3rd section. So unlike the front darts that are BOTH 5inches from the edge, my bum darts are off…

@@susibraun5346 Hi !! I'm actually not quite getting where the ties are supposed to be attached and what the purpose of the two holes in the waistband is, would you mind maybe explaining how you did it ? :)
@susibraun53463 жыл бұрын
@@hsf2649 i'll try :D the purpose of the holes is so that you can thread the tie through when you wear the skirt. you make two holes, because you fold the waisband in half when you attach it to the skirt. so that way the two holes overlap when you fold the waisband and you will be left with only one hole. if you would make only one hole, you would cover it with fabric once you fold the waisband and you then couldn't thread anything through, obviously. at 9:21 it shows where you have to wedge the ties between the waistband when you attach the waistband. Before this step you already sewed one side of the waistband onto the inner side of your skirt. so once you have done this, you fold the waistband "the wrong way", meaning right sides of the waistband touching. so in this step you dont fold it over the edge of the skirt, instead away from the skirt. (oh man, i really hops thats understandable, but just watch the video really closely). then you put the ties into the WASTBAND-fold. NOT between skirt and waistband. kind of in the middle of the waistband so not at the edge. and the you sew right along the corner of the waisband, really close to where the edge of your skirt ist. That way, when you flip the waistband right sides out and over the edges of the skirt (catching the raw upper edge of the skirt inside the waistband), you have a lovely clean edge all aroung. repeat on the other side and done. haha it's always so easy to show and so hard to write down :D i hope it helped you a bit, once you got it it's actually really easy. just try it and if you did it wrong you'll notice and you can always open it up again :) good luck!

@@susibraun5346 Thank you so much for explaining everything so well ! You really made my day :) I think I got confused because I pinned down the waistband so that it really "encased" the fabric of the skirt, so the hole still disappeared haha. Everything is much clearer thanks to you xxx
