I have a real wax cylinder Dictaphone and shaving machine so this video shows how I can make my own wax cylinder for trial runs. Great stuff

@@shedactivist nice. Just be careful, usually those machines use carnauba wax and I did not have a good experience with it, the chemistry is more complicated than I thought. Alfa olephin works for me well. Let me know your results.

Thank you very much. Without any false modesty, I believe that this is indeed one of the best playing simple design phonographs currently on youtube. The huge difference is that the others try to record on metal foil, which is terribly important to do with a high degree of accuracy. The phonograph in the video doesn't need that kind of precision. It should be noted that I had very good email consultation during development from a youtuber called MBCorp who builds the best phonographs, practically as good as the historical ones were. kzbin.info

What did you boil and apply?

The substance in the pot is just water that I boiled to get the steam. It is not wise to heat paraffin or wax directly because of their flammability. So the wax/paraffin is heated on steam to be safe. The substance on the plate is paraffin, you can use any hard synthetic wax that won't crack when it cools. Best results are with alpha olefin (different video).
