DIY EGR Blanking Montero Sports

Hi everyone just want to share my DIY EGR blanking of Montero sports.
Im not a expert, I just research and ask my friends, and the seller.
So, basically here are the steps:
1. Remove Bolts and Nuts of the EGR Pipe A & B
2. Remove EGR Pipe & Gasket
3. Clean Gaskets
4. Put back Gaskets
5. Put Blanking plates to EGR hole
6. Tighten the Bolts and Nuts
7. Start Engine
8. Check & make sure no leaks
9. Check if Engine light is on
10. All done!

Hi MrSakoTRG, until now im not having any problems after the install. I think lower models is experiencing this. I do have read from various that some has the Check engine light on after. But i took a gamble since i could just re-do the install, and got nice deal with my blanking plates.

The solenoid in the EGR is stuck open, leaking under revs (noisy and severe lack of power) . I was going to find a new solenoid to replace the damaged one in the EGR but now I'm thinking of just removing the bugger and blocking it off altogether. I was warned it could build up heat and warp the alloy head but many say its not an issue??? EGR delete cable and block off plates, any reason why you haven't added the cable ?

Nice work but, why did you keep the EGR exhaust gas cooler in place? what is the point now on heating the coolant fluid with exhaust gases that will not be used?, just remove it and put a bypass pipe instead

Sir, removing the EGR valve is going to improve the efficiency and performance of your vehicle and it is going to be a lot more powerful. For a DIYer like me it's easier for me to do this kind of blanking, I searched forums also about it. @@PaulAbordo thanks, can you please share your thoughts after having done it? Have you noticed better mileage for example, is the engine more responsive? If I were to do this I'd definitely have deleted the heat exchanger too and installed the blanking plate directly to the exhaust manifold. Maybe you can explore that possibility and make a second part video sharing your experience after having done what you showed here, thanks for the video

For me it is, egr cleaning is expensive (for me), adding cost for my preventive maintainance. I dont actually feel any difference in performance, only thing that you will notice is the smoke coming out of your exhaust, it has a lighter color. Ill try to upload a diy cleaning of egr, since its requested here, but im still doing research if i could actually do it. And if there is really a significant benefit. hi. are you having any engine errors? im thinking of putting a blank on mine but a lot of people are saying plate needs to have a hole at least 8mm in diameter to allow a small amount of recirculation to trick the computer & prevent engine warning light.

Yeah thats correct. A small hole (8 mm) tricks the computer into thinking everything is fine. The trade off is that a small amount of exhaust gasses will still pass into the manifold but not nearly enough to clog it up. Here in Australia alot of Mitsubishi Triton, Pajero and Challenger owners are using the 8mm option. Guys that dont are reporting engine light illumination. Some are even happy to drive around with the engine lit but I wouldnt recommend that.

Hi. no engine errors. i think it is something to do with the year model of your montero. according to some videos here in youtube lower year models experience such error. I don't have the 8mm hole. and so far no engine check error. Thanks

for cleaner emmisions lang naman ata yung purpose nang egr. kaya kung mag egr delete ka at papasa naman sa emmision test. edi ok. para hindi magrecirculate ang soot sa engine mo. causing microscopic wear

Jack M hi yes your montero has it also. There are shops all over the metro that is selling and installing blanking plates. But i purchased mine online, please see description. I bought mine online to save a bit for the cost and the labor charges.

Sir tanong ko lang....may nakapag sabi kasi sa akin na after the blanking some noticed na yun fuel filter nila naging madumi? can you confirm this? im planning to have blank yun egr ng monty ko same year model tayo

Bernard Sarmiento you mean oil filter? this is possible po since that the smoke goes back to your engine and burn it further. But following the Preventive Maintenance will still ensure the good health of your engine. Or have a better oil filter to use when tune-up time. But regarding fuel filter i don't think that this would be affected as its is a different line, but it is always best to check and change it. Thanks 😀 subscribe, like & share.

Marvin Bustamante sir there are two ways po sa pag kakaalam ko, 1st is using a spray na mabibili from ace or handyman all you have to do is remove the plastic pipe going to your throttle body then follow the sprays instruction. 2nd option is to actually remove the Maf sensor and buy a spray clearner. dipo ba parang masasakal yung engine nyo nyan at makahinga ng maayos why not us OCC nalang mas madali pang install sa brother ko kasi nagpakabit ng ganyan ayung after few weeks baba makina kasi na sira yung piston may singaw daw cause ng egr blanking pumasok ata sa loob ung dirt

Hi sir, sorry late reply, what i have gathered is that, it would prevent your egr to be very dirty that later on it would be a problem that you have to clean your egr which is also expensive. Some would say it would gain engine performance, but for me don't feel that much performance, but if any very minimal. There are more technical reasons but this is what i have understood. Sir as far as EGR Cleaning is concerned ang pag kakaalam ko dyan is 40k to 60k Kilometers dapat palinis na. There are two ways to know if you need EGR Cleaning, 1st is the physical hints, like grease or oil surrounding the EGR and near by components. 2nd is the change of idle and running feel of your engine or vibration of your cabin. Kahit saang machine shop kayang kaya nilang gawin yan. Ibigay mo lang ung sukat nung gasket at kung gano kakapal gusto mong pagawa. Binigyan ko lang 200 ung gumawa. Stainless pa ginamit

Before doing this diy, pls read how egr works and it's purpose. For diesel, our standard now is 1.2% opacity and for gasoline - CO=0.5% and HC=250hexane. Be a responsible car owner, gentlemen.
