EGR Blanking How To / Blank Plate Installation | Tech Tip 07

Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Would you like to inhale your exhaust gas? No? Well neither does your engine. So stop it from doing so with the install of a blanking plate. On my Ford Ranger this is about as simple as it gets. 2 bolts and you're done! No sweat.

I fitted a blanking plate to an egr on an old car. Got an engine warning light. Cheap code reader said egr flow error. Ignored the error until MOT time. Then I removed the blanking plate the day before, cleared the code, and refitted the plate after it passed the MOT 😉

To "FIX" the check engine light. Get a small piece of electrical tape and cover the light on the dash.

I did this on my 1.9 cdti vectra took clocks off and put a piece of black duck tape over emissions light job done

Wooow, EGR system is in the top of engine! In Opel its behind so you need to remove battery, coolant basket, fuel filter holder, several fires and you need to have extra shot torx-keys

Just so you know, removing the cooler pipes from the EGR cooler will cause the pipes inside the cooler to crack from the hot exhaust gases.

I have Ford Focus 2007 model running on petrol and check engine lights have been a problem for a while now and it says EGR system flow fault, it might take more time and cost to order a new EGR and replace so I am planning on deleting or blocking the EGR but still unsure about it. do you recommend of using blocker plate for the solution?

Im not sure but I believe some cars are gonna throw a tantrum when doing this if you dont get it remapped for an EGR-delete. Some vehicles may go into safe-mode and such and light up the check-engine light, correct me if im wrong

I bought a 2009 mondeo and it has the old 1.8 tdci engine in it. Good engine and I already have the blanking plate ordered for the egr. The engine has no dpf so all good there.

I deleted the entire egr and put a plug in the port. Yes, the check engine comes on. I could careless as it is explainable if one was selling their vehicle.

I have a 06 honda odyssey.. if I block mine off, will it throw the engine into limp mode or will I need a tune?

@@richardrussell4065 I'm not sure. Mostly it isn't legal in some states to block or remove it. I have an 06 Mustang. It throws a code is all on my car and runs just fine. You'd have to research on your car. I can't imagine anything but the code popping up. Make sure to check with a certified mechanic, or utube it, as well as your states regulations.

if you put a 4 - 5mm hole in blanking plate, EGR sencor will detect the slight amount of gas passing through..... not 100% blocked off but shite loads better. have also been told a performance or economy chip turns light off

I did this on my 2006 Mazda BT 50, but I had to revert back because the engine ran too cool. It was lucky to reach 60°.

Well that environment argument is pure bullshit. Many cars, like mine, a Hyundai iload are known to turbo faliure due to carbon buildup and shit that restrics the oil pickup, and later on the engine breathes in turbo parts and swarf from axle and other things... Which then will result in the need to scrap that car, which takes lots of energy, and then I have to buy a new car which was build by an energy consuming process with lots of emissions. And also that makes the car company to have the need to produce more cars and bla bla bla..... So if the engine held up for longer, and people didn't have to buy new ones due to engine failures, then that will make all the emission bullshit to be just bullshit... EGR valve is just a device to ruin engines short after warranty expires, and then companys can produce more cars. And the politician who most often haven't even held a wrench in their whole lives just live in that lie that they thought that they have made an environmental beneficial stand... So in the end those naive sons of bitches called politicians think that they contributed, and the greedy manufacturers of cars are rubbing their hands and counting profits.... This world really needs some glasses to see the bigger picture, and no EGR, because even if it sounds like a good idea, it's really just another part that needs to be replaced and then the money you earned just changed pockets to the car manufacturers pocket....

I firmly believe that keeping older vehicles on the road IS helping the environment, for the reasons you stated . This 'throwaway' culture really bugs me. My comment about the 'environment' in the video was intended as a joke, but seems to have annoyed some people!

I’ve been explaining this side the argument for ages,. I just rebuilt a Santa Fe diesel because of overheating issues and was absolutely horrified at the soot half blocking the intake 🤯 How can sucking in chunks of soot & carbon be good 💁🏼‍♂️ and it’s gotten even worse with insistence of ADBlue, what a ridiculous blight on the environment that is🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

This will overheat combustion chamber. Causing engine misfire.coz egr indirectly regulate/cool combustion chamber. Inshort egr is not just about environment.its About engine head.

zyd Kap yes as long as the erg valve is quite clean and shuts correctly, dirty ones stay slightly open, as don't forget to block pipe

I have just done this to my focus 1.8tdci 2006. At first i could tell it was faster and smoother but now my engine now seems to be quite loud and a bit slow. I cant find anyone else having this problem anywhere and it seems everyone has a positive result. Any chance I have fitted it wrong?

As far as I'm aware, diesels are only subject to a visual/smoke test, so it should be fine. This is the case for the truck at least.

If they see it tampered with, it will fail. It’s the same for the dpf, I have both the egr and the DPF removed/blanked off on my A6 3.0 tdi, passes mot like a trooper every year. And runs like a dream. You would never know they were done looking at them. Watch for soot build up on exhaust pipes, a good running engine will run clean. Mine look like a petrol engines exhaust pipes.

Brian Sowerby yeah they can come up with a warning light on new cars. Drilling an 8mm hole through the centre of the plate will let some gas bypass and recirculate, but you won't have a light and it will still benefit the car a lot

can someone please answer my question. Is it possible to stop the EGR by just removing the vacuum line that is attached to the EGR valve? or would this have any potential damage in the long run?

Yea, it will work, the only problem with doing it this way is that the exhaust gas will still make it to the valve, adding to whatever gunk is already in there.

Fast Rust that is very true. Quick question: Should the vacuum line be operating on cold start? Because from what I read online, the egr valve should only open when the engine gets warm. But in my car it was pulling a vacuum on a cold start

If you just do this you may find your EGR valve eventually clogs and causes an error code requiring replacement. For 5 bucks it’s better to blank it at the source
