If you add a stator between the fans you should see a 33% increase in total thrust. Also a rounded inlet rim will give you another 20%.

One way to get a bit more thrust out of this is to increase the pitch on the second propeller since the air is already moving fast when it hits the blades you can increase the amount of work the second one does.

I agree with Mike. A little thing I did that worked,was 1 2700 kv motor but putting a 3 blade finer pitch forward of the 6 blade and got 1.1 kg static thrust instead of the 920g before. Imagine putting a say a 4.5 pitch 12 blade followed with a 12 blade high pitch with some stators between.

You can get brushless motors with shafts on both ends, so you could have two fans with only one motor, as the motor power is not the limiting factor here the fan is.
@MechNinja3 жыл бұрын
I think so two fans with a single motor reduces the efficiency because there will me more weight added on the motor. If I attach both the propellers on a single motor, so both propellers will have same rotation thus the whole system will work as a propeller with so much of blades. Then the above system can be replaced with a propeller with double the number of blades. I have used two motors because I want the propeller to move in counter direction with respect to each other. Hope you get the point. Thanks for watching it....and subscribe for more informative videos like this.
@thomasdowd21832 жыл бұрын
What you really want is contra-rotating fans. By having them spin in opposite directions, the second fan adds further energy to the airflow while also taking out a lot of the rotation in the airflow and turning that into axial airflow which is what gives you net thrust. Implementation is tricky though.
@MechNinja2 жыл бұрын

Testing various nacelles/ogives to ensure maximum thrust, as well as the possibility of vertical thrust vectoring, to assist with rotation/Vy on take off roll and emergency climbs. Initial goal is a minimum of 350-to-375 pounds of static thrust. Ultimate Goal is to fly farther/faster than any other available e-aircraft on the market, using available battery technology. If your going for high speed fans, like you have here, do a propeller balancing beforehand. Even with rc blades you buy it becomes an issue and many rc enthusiasts I know balance their propellers. This will remove most of the fast wobble that caused the propeller to come off and could make control hard.

@@MechNinja no problem. Will look forward to it. I 3d print as well (fdm and resin) and love seeing what others do. For your acceleration testing you might want to lube the rod to lower the friction. Then add a newton meter at the back for the engine to pull against. This will lead to easier tests where your not having to have your hands near a spinning propeller. Also linear rails are an option. It’s what my 3d printer has from an upgrade to decrease friction. If your really wanting to increase throughput make the first fan bigger then the second fan so that the second fan can spin faster with less energy (because mass farther from the center needs more energy to get to higher speeds) which is what flywheels take advantage of (more mass as far from the edge as they can). You could also use two pwm controls (one for each motor) to control the speed better. If not then arduino could convert one pwm signal to two with an algorithm. Oh and please put the wires behind a support inside the engine. They cut off a decent amount of your airflow

Thanks for showing. A better way to measure efficiency is to measure the current consume using a clamp on DC ammeter during operation. Then measure thrust per current = thrust/ current in ampere. Then you can make better comparison of 1 fan vs 2 fan . To improve the thrust, you can add some stator blades at the exhaust end with a tapered cone. This will straitened the exhaust air flow of the fan and convert to more thrust.

Hope you'll understand this if you are from an engineering background....they are deliberately made curved for low air pressure generation... Btw for Ender 3, Use support generation and set the support angle to 75 degree so that the support will only be generated at the bottom edge of the blade. And then you can later remove it from cutter. I have also printed those on Ender 3. And sorry for the inconvenience caused. From next time I will show the printing method too....😊😊😊

@@MechNinja thanks for the reply. have finally got something usable after playing with the support angle degrees. Creality slicer is currently set at 2°. Anything much higher and the support doesn't start at the base of the blade which results in failure in the first few layers. Still lots of stringing on the bottom edges that needs trimming off. When you say "deliberately made curved for low air pressure" would you mostly be referring to proper full size functioning turbines? Personally I'd have still designed half of the bottom edge flat for ease of printing. When I say bottom edge, I'm laying the design flat with the logo sat in the print bed. That is a bit of an inefficient way to measure thrust because you're starving the intake of air with the scale and those wooden blocks. If you want your measurements to be a little more accurate, may I suggest a digital hanging scale? Fishermen often use a hanging type of scale to measure the weight of the fish they caught. If you suspend your ducted fans (intake down, thrust nozzle up) from the scale, zero out the scale then turn it on, you won't have any restrictions blocking your intake and a smoother flow of air through the unit.

Thanks for sharing the information and I really appreciate your suggestion. Yes I know that was improper way to measure thrust but it was my starting video. But my new videos has a different mechanisms to calculate thrust. Could you please watch the new EDF video and tell me that the thrust calculation is proper or not. Thankyou for your suggestion and thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe Here is the link for the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWqwe4CJjsaSaM0

Did you balance the prop first?
@MechNinja3 жыл бұрын
No I haven't balanced the prop as it was too small and it doesn't have enough weight disbalance that we have to balance it. Only I was afraid to use a higher rpm motor because it may brake the propeller bcoz of high centrifugal force. My upcoming videos are on aviation and robotics so subscribe to the channel so that you don't miss any videos... Thankyou 😊😊

sir is it safe to use 3d printed propellers for 4300kv motor?
@MechNinja2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can go for it...it will be better if you print them with ABS. But PLA will also work. But remember to wear safety glasses.....
@YoungPhysicistsClub17292 жыл бұрын
@@MechNinja of course sir, i will be wearing safety glasses, but can you kindly explain why abs is better than pla?
@MechNinja2 жыл бұрын
It is only a little bit stronger than PLA but a disadvantage is that it is brittle as compared to PLA.
@YoungPhysicistsClub17292 жыл бұрын
@@MechNinja ohhh ok i understand, but will pla be better at handling radial tension or will abs be better for handling radial tension (btw, radial tension is when the propeller expands when spinning at high rpm)
@MechNinja2 жыл бұрын
Yes i know about radial tesnion...😂😂 I am a mechanical engineer 😅😅...Well for breaking a propeller with radial tension, we need very high rpm. But since our weight is less then I don't think so the propeller will undergo a fracture. And it also depends on the size of propeller because big propellers weight much and since it will be 3D printed then a little assemettricity will cause vibration and their are more chances of failure. And since ABS is brittle as compared to PLA then you must go with PLA.

1) What material did you use for your prints? 2) Do you know what RPM did you reach? It looks like you are using a 3S battery pack so for a 1000KV motor , the theoretical max RPM would be 12.6 * 1000 = 12,600 RPM I would like to print an 11 blade fan, less probability to induce resonant behavior. 3) Is there a way to get the actual model from you? Even if it means royalties. This request is for personal use, not intending to make money out of it. If not possible, and not much effort on your part, can you produce an STL with 11 blades? Jaime (in the USA)
