Over 2 years of using it everyday, zero issues. I'm no expert but it seems obvious to me that if the wires are isolated it's fine, but just to make sure I asked the experts and they said no problem!

I did just that. But I used 2x RT50B to power 4x 84hp with two busboards as I calculated that the RT50B gives ample +12V for 2x 84hp but a single RT65B does not deliver enough -12V for 4x 84hp.

This video is amazing! One question: I didn’t see the ground wire (yellow) connecting to the actual Bus Board? According to the documentation it looks like the bus board has a ground hole that is supposed to be connected to the AC Ground. Is this optional?
@DanieleGiannattasio
@DanieleGiannattasio Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The ground/yellow wire goes from the power socket to the PSU, then there is also a black wire going from the PSU COM to the GND hole on the actual bus board. The wires are connected exactly as shown in the documentation.

Do you need a fan to manage heat? Does it get very hot?
@DanieleGiannattasio

No you don't need a fan and it works just fine. I'm not sure if the psu gets hot as it's placed under the modules but I highly doubt it.

I might as well ask here, since I dont know where else. I'm making a DIY synth that only needs +12 -12, no 5v required i would absolutely use this power supply, but after looking at the datasheet, it has really low amp ratings for the -12 rail, like half an amp. (then i would need multiple of these to make the full thing) does anyone know a good alternative with higher amp ratings?
@DanieleGiannattasio
@DanieleGiannattasio 3 ай бұрын
Sorry I can't help with the choice of another PSU, but I know that this one can deliver up to 3,5A at +12V and 1A at -12V lines as long as it can "borrow" the extra power from the 5V line. You may try asking on Mod Wiggler, where I'm sure more people will be able to help you quickly.

Thanks Daniele. I'll take a look. I thought you might work for modularsynthlab yourself :) Cheap Chinese electrolytics have a habit of dying early, especially with the heat contained inside a case so want to make sure they are a decent brand.
@DanieleGiannattasio
@DanieleGiannattasio Жыл бұрын
@@theguvnor2081 no I don't work for them :) I don't know if they are good quality capacitors but I'm using this kit since I filmed the video and it works just fine. Bobeats has also been using these for a while in his big case, hopefully that's a good indication of longevity!
@theguvnor2081
@theguvnor2081 Жыл бұрын
The guys at modularsynthlab told me that they aim for either Nichicon or Panasonic caps, or at least automotive grade depending on availability. If that's true then it should be decent enough.

that power supply is big enough to power like 9u 104hp easily? just get multiple bus boards? How does the system sound compared to Behringer CP1A or Tip Top power supply? Is there more noise or different character? Just wondering how smooth the DC signals are.. if they are audiophile or not.
@DanieleGiannattasio
@DanieleGiannattasio 2 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the total power consumption of your system but I believe you might need a second PSU. By the way this one delivers +12 3.5A, -12V 1A, 5V 2A. I did not compare the two side by side but I didn't notice any difference when using the same modules with both CP1A and Mean Well. I used it with a lot of different modules from various different brands and I have experienced zero noise whatsoever.

Thanks for explaining nothing with the actual wiring but the stock piano was exactly what I was looking to hear at this moment (sarcasm) .
@DanieleGiannattasio
@DanieleGiannattasio Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry your expectations were not met and I regret to inform you the piano is not stock :) regarding the wiring, unless you are colorblind, it should be pretty easy to mimic what I did in the video. That said, if you click the first link in the description, you will find a picture with the same exact colored wires and an idiot-proof (I hope) wiring scheme. Considering your low level of attention though, I suggest you not play with a PSU unless you are supervised by your parents (sarcasm).
@delta61
@delta61 Ай бұрын
There's not much to explain really. If you have some basic understanding of electronics, you can easily do this since there is no actual building of circuits involved. That's why there's no need for a tutorial or explanations. If you need a tutorial to follow along, you shouldn't be handling PSU parts by yourself and just buy a ready made solution. You're looking at 110-230V AC strait from your mains here. If you make a mistake, you might as well put a screwdriver in your wall outlet ;)
