I prefer these over hot wax. The glue sticks -might- be slightly more expensive than wax BUT its 107 heat index where I live and I know the glue will not melt whereas the wax definitely will.

Another thing you can try is melting the pellets and casting them into buck shot or slugs then re-installing them. Lee makes molds for round balls and slugs. I have one this and it works great. I use a 3/8 hole saw made for tile but your cutter should work. Maybe you could move in the utility blade closer to the center of the shell so it leaves more of the crimp. After I put the recast buck or slugs in I cover it with a brittle adhesive . This waterproofs it and keeps it from coming out. I have used all kinds of adhesive - from wax to elmers glue and they all work as long as it does not shrink too much,if it does reapply till the load is covered. Also try to keep the adhesive as close to the top as possible I put the glue in and cover with wax paper the let it set primers up. My next experiment is going to be glueing an overshot wad on and just leaving it, I don't think it will effect slug accuracy but I'm going to find out. Love the vids-- thanks

Thanks for the video. One suggestion: shoot a vid on shooting your slugs at 7 n 20 yards using paul harrell's meat test.

ive been doing this for over 30 years but the only thing i do is put a cap at the end instead of more shot...if you have the crimp left and put a cap at the end you can use it in pump shot guns without the fear of magazine misfire, Oh and by the way I shoot them at 100 yards with no problem...says my GONG.

great info thanks. what do you use for a cap? cardboard?

You do not hit a target at 100 yards with your 12g. Especially with these. You sir, are a braggart.
@chrisharmon53092 жыл бұрын
@@jamesandrews3433 I assure I can and have hit targets at 100 yards with my shotguns. It's not difficult so long as your shooting slugs or anything hard enough to stay together that far. I'm sure hot glue lead mixture would suffice fine for a slug. It's not like the video games bud....some say buckshot can be lethal at 200 yards. I'm sure slugs will do just as well.

Instead of cutting the top off. Can you simply open the crimp and RE-crimp?

When I make my exotic rounds I usually like this little candle right before I start to work on my showers and when I get done with my first shell all the wax is already melted in the little candle and then I just pour it out.

if you fill the shell with just glue , will it work like a rubber slug?

Einar Kramer you don't have a "reply" button so I am replying here. Rifled slugs do spin in a smooth bore and they are accurate to at least 100 yards. You could find and verify that information second hand or shoot some slugs and see for yourself first hand.
@EinarKramer10 жыл бұрын
So the text below is wrong? "The "fins" impart little or no spin to the projectile; their actual purpose is to decrease the bearing surface of the slug to the barrel and therefore reduce friction and increase velocity." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun_slug#Brenneke_slugs I seem to find similar claims several other places. Could the accuracy be that good because they are front heavy?

You may be right.I don't have a high speed camera.

Mountain Storm I've bought a slug mold my self, and hope to be casting soon. It's the 7/8th Oz one. Is supposed to be more accurate than the 1 oz version. I'll try some hot glue ones like this, too. I might "cast" them outside the shell, though (a hole drilled in a block of wood or something) -so I'll be sure it won't stick to the cup and a also enable me to just open and re-close the crimp on top of it.

What do you mean by primer strikes. Is it like a lite primer or something that people should be aware of when making these?
@tplke25 жыл бұрын
I think he is referring to a lose bb falling out of the shell into the gun and hitting the primer of another round.

I've always used hot glue over wax slugs. not to mention paraffin wax is highly cancerous
@MountainStorm10 жыл бұрын
Yes like Gasoline the vapors are toxic...and explosive. The proper way to heat wax is in a double boiler or temperature controlled pot (crock pot) and it is important to keep it below the temperature where it fumes. But nobody does that...just slap it on an electric eye and turn on the stove fan, open a window and don't make any sparks.
