That is by far the best method of binding I have ever seen in 60 years of sewing. Kudos to you! I’m definitely using your method from now on. Who says you can’t teach an old “dog” new tricks. Thanks so much.

The BEST teacher !! So clear , full of explanation so we better understand why we do it , efficient, so no wasting time on back tacking that yields no value . … the list goes on … fantastic video 👍👍👍. Love your choice of towels 💕. This is on my list to make next year for Christmas and house warming gifts. Great that’s it is wide enough to place two casserole dishes. Very good practical gift that every home will find useful. I have to be one year ahead for Christmas gifts else I will never get it all done in time for current year. Big extended family. This is another big winner for me … I have to shop tea towels all year … when I see nice ones, just buy them up. Hehehe.

Thanks again Berniece! You are a fantastic supporter😊. What have you made this year for gifts?

@@NotchesSewing l made many of your kitchen BOA, some more asked for hanging kitchen towels. They made their way to the USA cause my aunt came in Oct to visit .So I gave her and her daughter a set of two each . Early Christmas gift so I don’t have to ship it. She gave one to her daughter in law and I said no , please take it back, I will make a set for her. So I made and sent via another visitor to take back. Made eco paper towels with no paper…hahaha, used printed flannel and microfibre cloth so they can stop using paper towels to wipe counters. Eco fold up grocery bags as grocery stores no longer sell plastic grocery bags. By 2024 all single use plastic can no longer be import or sold. That includes takeout utensils. That’s on my list to make for 2023, a fold up holder with sections for real knife, fork, spoon so they pack it in their work bag and use when they buy food in food courts or if they pack their lunch. This includes school kids using reusable utensils. I have been so busy and I broke my sewing machine. It was a work horse in 2022. Now, I am making baby gifts as the storks are on a busy schedule for Spring 2023! So happy to hear more babies are coming…😊 ( not for my family …not yet I was told …so I showed my DIL my HUGE collection of baby fabrics …please don’t make me wait tooooo long because I bought special ones for you ). She laughs and said OK 😉 will work on that in 2023.

I call these counter quilts. I’ve made them for my hot canning jars when they come out of the canner. I’ve never used tea towels though. Just always used quilters cotton and two layers of cotton batting. OMGoodness using tea towels is a great idea! And there are so many pretty ones out there. The absorption will be better also. Thank you! Definitely getting some to make more Christmas gifts. Also loved your tips on binding. That will be very helpful as that’s always my hardest step.
@NotchesSewing2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great name for them! Thanks for tip about canning jars. Yes there are so many cute tea towel designs out there. My advice is do not put in dryer when pre washing as some prints fade a lot in streaks. Just line dry before making. Thanks for watching🙏😊

Should the batting be washed first too? What will happen after they are washed again? I’m a new sewer and made a circle one and a rectangular one where I included another layer of something that is heat resistant on one side (sorry, I don’t even know what it’s called). But when I washed the circle one, it became an oval lol. What did I do wrong? I did wash the fabric first.

I generally do not wash the batting. Make sure to wash in cold and do not use the dryer…

Thank you! Every time I use Insulbright and batting, my pad gets all distorted, mostly on the backing side. Even when I use basting spray. I’ll try this method without Insulbright. But it’s worse when I use the self-binding method where the backing is used as the binding. So frustrating!!!
