I'm sharing the best design and materials I found to make face masks for my family and me. This design fits very well, is easy to sew and has a pocket for a filter to add an extra layer of protection. It's frugal AND minimal. Stay healthy, my dear KZbin fam! 💜

Thank you. We were not able to buy any masks at all. You did an excellent job making this video. You made it very easy for anyone to make a mask. Even without a sewing machine it can be made by hand. Bless you for sharing.

Finally, a mask tutorial that seems possible to make. I love how you used a sheet and used what you had around the house for filters. I am severely immunocompromised, so fortunately I already had a box of heavy duty masks made to filter out viruses. I want to make some of your masks to go over these so we can reuse them. Thanks for another helpful video. I hope you and your family are doing well!

OK so I made this pattern following your instructions to the tea - in fact I made it twice - the first time using the ties which you used - the second time using 1/4 inch elastic cut at 6.5 inches per piece in place of the ties - both masks fit beautifully but the one with the regular ties actually gave a tighter fit around all sides - less gapping - the elastic I liked better but the fit around the ides of the face wasn't as tight - UNTIL- I placed an extra pleat on each side - now I just have to locate 1/4 inch elastic - everywhere in the Sacramento area is totally out. Thanks for a great pattern :)

Perfect to travel with because you won't run out of them. I like to wear them when we are in hotel rooms too in case one of us ( there's 4 of us) caught it and didn't know ( it happened before). Thx.

Great pattern, thanks! I've also seen we can cut apart an unused furnace filter and pull out the filter fabric. That's what I'll be using inside the pocket. It's not washable though. The virus is heat sensitive, so I'll put the used filters in the oven at 150 for 15 minutes and the masks in the washer after each use.

Nice! I've seen one using a furnace filter. I have one too and will likely use that inside the pocket at some point, but wanted to offer more easily accessible alternatives. I like your method to reuse the material you have! I'll definitely keep it in mind. Thank you so much! :)

@@TheFrugalMinimalist Please be careful using the furnace filter. I believe at least one of the companies that makes them has stated they contain FIBERGLASS, and they are not to be used as face masks. Please do your research on this one. And, depending on what you find, I would suggest informing Laurie G. and removing misinformation from your channel. I can see that you care.

Thank you for sharing. My son works at a grocery store and he is wearing masks but they are ones we had for dust protection and not the best and we are going to run out. I am glad we already had them before this all started here though. I am going to find out what types of materials I already have here since I sew I have lots of kinds.
@TheFrugalMinimalist

If you sew, you might have some interfacing which I think will work well in a mask as a filter. I have small scraps I'm going to stitch together to make filters. Those are non woven polypropylene :) I hope you and your son stay safe and well!!

I've also been watching lots of DIY mask KZbin - haven't been this one though - do you create a little pocket at the top which can fit a folded pipe cleaner? Thanks for all you do - keep posting - miss you when you go awhile without posting.
@TheFrugalMinimalist
@TheFrugalMinimalist 4 жыл бұрын
The inside of this one is completely hollow. Actually it fits so well, I don't think it needs a pipe cleaner but I can see taping one on the inside using some bandage tape or something similar. I especially like this design because it is a solid piece of cloth. Most other ones have a seam right down the middle in the front, which makes me nervous. Good luck and stay safe! 💜
