DIY Fairy Garden House

This DIY project was inspired by a Fairy Garden House I saw on Pinterest, so I decided to make my own version! You can see the original idea for the house here at Jo's Fantasy Fairy Homes ( / jos-fantasy-fairy-home... )
I started with a simple glass jar, and using aluminum foil, I bulked up the bottom and the top of the mushroom. I used DAS Paperclay to cover the whole house. However, I ran out of the DAS clay before I could finish the detailing, so I turned to an opened package of Creative Paperclay to finish the house up!
After the clay dried, I painted with craft acrylics to finish it up. Hope you like it! Like and Subscribe for future videos! Any comments or suggestions for future projects? Post down in the comments below!

Love this Fairy House. I was wondering if you put your fairy houses outside. If so do you put any sealer on it. So the moisture doesn’t get to it. I just started making fairy houses out of homemade paper clay. What kind of sealer should I use. Thanks for your help. ❤️

Hey Artie! I don't display them outside.. In terms of sealer, you could look at products such as deck sealers and stuff as an option. Even though it's air dry clay, I think it's still porous and susceptible to ruin over the long term. It's my understanding that something made from clay would have to be properly baked in order to become impervious to water and the elements. For that reason, I don't really display them outdoors since they are intricate sculptures and I would fear I wouldn't properly seal every nook and cranny on them, and I don't think I could cure these in a kiln (although I should look into that!). :D I hope that helps! Hey there! So there are two ways of re-gluing stuff back on your pieces. I usually just use wood glue to re-attach anything that falls off. In fact, in this particular model the little door in the back fell off after it dried so I had to use wood glue to reattach it. The second way is to take a bit of clay, and mix it with a few drops of water.. then wet the two pieces with that wet clay and use it as a bond to re-secure the piece. The advantage to using this method is that it will dry in the same color of the clay, where the wood glue will leave a yellowish tint (since the glue is yellow). I don't mind the yellow because I end up painting over it anyway. :) I hope that helps, thanks for asking!

could air dry clay work on this. I have some Crayola air dry clay in one of those small tubs from the craft stores and not sure what to do with it.

I would try a test with it first. Try covering a small jar with it and let it dry, and see how it holds up. :) Is that Model Magic? From what I remember it dries to a kind of soft finish? I don't remember.. good luck and let me know how it goes!

I use a store bought clay called "DAS Paper Clay." It's an air dry clay. As far as outdoor use, that's a great question. Once the clay hardens, it still can be water soluble. The paint can also be affected by the outdoor elements. I would recommend applying multiple coats of an outdoor sealer of some sort before using them outside.

Try yacht varnish if you want to make it waterproof. You would have to be careful to get every nook and cranny tho.
