Very creative! Thank you!. For those people yelling that epoxy resin is not food safe... I make tumblers that are covered with epoxy. There are different types of epoxy - just make sure (for anything that will touch food or your mouth) that the brand has marking that is FDA compliant and No VOC's. You can add any type of paint in the bottom layers just put top layer as pure epoxy and you're fine. There's also edible paint, mica powder etc... oh, and fumes are bad only while the mixing (starts chemical reaction). Once it's cured- it's safe to use. Thanks, again for an ispirational video!

Resin coasters are very popular, but they make poor coasters because they are not absorbent in any way! If you have a glass which has condensation, it will just pool on the resin and make a mess.

@@diylilyardor3435 You're welcome! I think what does it is your careful attention to layering and depth. Most people just do one layer with details that go all the way through the piece (which still looks cool, it just doesn't completely sell the stone effect.) Especially cool that you managed to do the same thing in one cure with the amethyst example.

Can you make the embossing powder food safe? like putting a layer of resin on top of it?
@kccastle20515 жыл бұрын
Yes you can.. just make sure the resin that you are using, is food safe. Although most of them are, some aren't (make sure before purchase, that it is food safe). Art resin is good but not for hot drinks.. if you want it for food and hot drinks, I recommend countertop resin. It is food safe and heat resistant (once dry, of course).

@dormantlime2155 жыл бұрын
I was thinking- maybe pour out some resin, lightly roll the edges of the coaster in the shallow resin, and let that set? So the embossment will be covered by the food safe resin. I haven't worked with resin before though so I'm not sure if that would work.

hi! how long did you wait between mixing the resin and making the lines! and after doing the lines, how long did you wait to pour the white resin! I've tried this technique at least 3 times, and my lines desapeared as soon as i poor another color
@diylilyardor34354 жыл бұрын
it can be anywhere between 40 minutes and 3 hours. I know it Sounds like a large space in time but it really depends on how the resin reacts with the paint you add. If the paint doesn't affect the resin much it can take much much longer. The lines need to be tacky enough not to mix in with the fresh resin.

I use these boards very lightly. You're right the embossing isn't super duper durable. This was my first time working with it. I do think gold leaf is way more durable. So far with light use it's not bad at all. Sealing with clear resin would help I'm sure but, honestly If I was to do it again I'd prob do gold leaf and seal the gold leaf instead.

Does anyone know when using this as a cheese board I know its more for decoration than practicality but is it still ok to cut cheese/grapes on or would the knife marks really dent into the resin? I mean I wouldn't use it as a chopping board obviously but if I served cheese on it and people were cutting slices would it ruin/show in the resin? Thank you!
@diylilyardor34355 жыл бұрын
Hi Hellen, I personally wouldn't use is to cut anything on. I would simply use it to display already cut cheese. Just be sure to have a clear layer of resin over colored resin and fully let it cure before using for food contact. I know there's a lot of controversy over whether this art resin is safe for food contact. From what it says on their website it seems to be food safe. I'm not an expert but, the only thing I'm thinking when cutting on it is maybe pieces of resin being chipped off. The idea of that is a bit iffy to me. You can also just have these as coasters :) or cute for decor on a shelf.
