Your hair is FAR too long to START with add on hair....I'm glad you figured that out. I use a double strand of yarn at the ends to do it....works out great and doesn't cause extra weight. Shamed to admit it took me several pulled or stressed neck and shoulder muscles to figure that out.

Whenever you do something, you're always super innovative with it. Your channel is truly a leader in the natural-hair community. thanks, Whit.
Ugh I'm late! I was so concerned with updating my google cover art I'm 45 minutes late to the viewing! Let me shut up now and watch! Oh my goodness, that's frightening you had an allergic reaction to the hair. It wasn't that confusing, it was no E = mc^2 or nothing! But you have to be thorough so no one blames their failed faux locs attempt on you. All that hair is just mind blowing. I would make smaller sections because if I were to make my twists that large with the amount of hair I have, I would be left with about 10-12 locs....when was the last time you've seen someone with 10-12 locs?! Look at that smile on your face...ooh, what you make for dinner?! Never mind this isn't a vlog I have no right to ask that question. Wait what were those words in your hands...oh long layers, whew, no subliminal weirdness going on (not saying you'd do that!) This is really COOL and Fabulous Whitney, a good way to achieve a new look without committing to locs and it's one HECK of a protective style! Great tutorial, 2 thumbs up, thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of you day...whew! Awe love the shout outs...oooh I see my 3/4 pic on the tweets, I recognize that rim of the ear anywhere, thanks girl!

clarissainjapan Hey Clarissa! That is a good question because I thought about how the synthetic hair might intertwine with our hair after days or weeks of wearing them.

I almost finished and I thought "hell no, this is too heavy and too stiff!" I'm definately looking forward to trying this method. Question though - could I use acrylic yarn and do this instead of synthetic hair?

@kuulei0610 жыл бұрын
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, the top of the loc by my scalp is tight, and the bottom where I light is tight, but the middle area keeps unraveling and becomes loose but still attached because it's already been lit. What am I doing wrong? Am I not pulling it tight enough?
@madigriffin65489 жыл бұрын
+Ku'ulei Dow I think what you should do is first leave like a half and inch to an inch of space between your scalp and the twist so it's not so tight, for the twist to stop unraveling you should twist it tighter, and lastly for the ends it just depends where you mean...like where you attached the synthetic hair for length/something to burn or the end of the synthetic hair where you burned it

Thankyou for taking the time to create styles that actually work.

Now I've seen MANY-a-faux locs tutorial. This is by far and most likely will always be the best one! They're flexible, light, varying in length (as most real locs do), and only use four packs. All of the other tutorials I've watched have results that are super thick, heavy-looking, shiny, and there are too many - making them look super unrealistic. If I weren't in the Army, I'd use your exact method to do some! Great job! That look really suits you.

Hi Whitney!!! When working woth synthetic hair boil water. After you twist, lock, or even braid your hair. Section your style into four section. Dip your twist, locs, or braids in the hot water to make them loose and weigh less as well. Be careful Make sure you have a towel to grab the hair out of the hot water. Hope this helps for next time :)

Anyone can loc their hair, no matter the texture :). People with naturally straight hair do it as well
@sheilayoyo10 жыл бұрын
Yh even white ppl with sliky straight hair can lock their hair
@lilbufbuf10 жыл бұрын
sheilayoyo Matted hair =/= loc'd hair...technically only people with curly/afro-textured hair can naturally "loc" their hair. White folk with straight hair do a lot of unsanitary things to be able to loc their hair--including not washing it.
@keyla96510 жыл бұрын
AbbieThrills Ma'am anybody regardeless of race can naturally loc their hair. It just takes longer if their hair is straighter and more fine. Anybody hair can become matted. Also, it's not a stone cold fact that white people don't wash their hair when they're starting the locing process even more than black people don't wash theirs so it doesn't unravel It's always up to the individual. Don't negatively generalize a whole entire race by saying that, It's rude and ignorant as fuck.
@lilbufbuf10 жыл бұрын
keyla965 No, they cannot. And as a Jamaican with family members who are Rastas...it makes me supremely uncomfortable seeing white people co-opting locs and participating in cultural appropriation. Everyone's hair doesn't naturally loc. Matted hair, backcombing, putting wax in, not washing one's hair to "loc" it...is not natural loc'ing. I didn't know that saying white people do unhealthy things to loc their hair is "generalising an entire race." I wonder if my "generalising" is making life super hard for white people. I wonder if they're getting denied jobs, gunned down in the streets and locked up for being generalised as not being able to naturally loc their hair.

Welcome to the wonderful world of loc's, Whitney. You were them well! I have had loc's for over 17 years, they were flowing around my hips. I love how you've came up with a solution to stop the itching from synthetic hair! I haven't worn regular braids or weave in my hair for yeeeaars because it sets my scalp on FIRE! So the only braids I do are yarn braids since i can still keep up my co-washing regimine with them and you don't have to worry about them slipping off (plus no itch) but I think I may try these! Have you washed your hair with these in yet? Do they slip any?
