To help with the yo yo effect, you can put your temp probe into a small, sealed bottle of water or other liquid so that instead of air temps, you're pulling the temp of the liquid, which is a bit more thermally stable.

I put mine directly into the fermentor. Seems to work great
@GO0DWOLF

@@Rubio_Eric that will work too. The other way just keeps you from having to clean the probe between batches so much.

Great video! Quick question.. I have a mini fridge that in looking to get rid of in order to make space for a fermentation chamber. Your video has me thinking of using the mini fridge. What size is your fridge? And do you know how tall your fermenters are? My mini fridge looks similar to yours but I have big mouth bubbler fermenters. I definitely want to be able to cool 2 at a time so I thought I would have to get a chest freezer. Thanks for the video! Subbed

The height of the mini fridge on the inside is 29 in, the taller of my two fermenters is 21 so I have plenty of space for the airlock on top. honestly if you needed to you could build the collar higher if you needed the furniture towards the door to have more headspace. I didn't need the extra clearance so I just built the collar straight out. Hope this helps.

Great video! Ever tried to cold crash with your ferm chamber set up? Also, had any problems with keeping lager temps for a long period of time?

I have. typically wants to flavor gets to exactly where I want it I drop the temperature down to 45 to stop fermentation. this is another great reason to have a fermentation chamber as you can't stop the fermentation easily without this temperature control

@jay Jenkins I have a question. 1st off, great video. How did you connect/seal the wood collar to the mini-fridge?
@JayJenkins

I used to construction grade adhesive (liquid nails) and pocket screws.

Great video! Would i need to get one with a freezer section? Whatvif it was purely just a fridge?
@JayJenkins
@JayJenkins 6 ай бұрын
That should work fine. It'll save you the time of bending the cooling element down. The coldest I go is 44 before kegging because that is what my keezer bar is set to and a fridge should be able to do that.

I’m new to home brewing and looking to setup a fermentation chamber like this and you just answered a question that’s been burning in my mind: won’t the Inkbird constantly be turning on and off the fridge and heating element. I guess it’s gonna take a little experimenting. I’m curious if I even need this except for doing a lager. My room temperature (downstairs where I keep my fermenter) fluctuates between 66-68F. And my fermenter fluctuates between 67-69F. The only time the fermenter temp rises above 69 is like the first day I add my yeast and it goes up to like 78-79F for about 15 hours but then smooths out. Would a fermentation chamber really benefit me that much?

If your temps are that stable and you always ferment at that temp then the juice might not be worth the squeeze. But.... As you saw it's fairly cheap and easy to make, and it will give you not only the ability to know your temp is stable, but to ferment at slightly different temps for different yeast and flavor. Even with ales, fermenting at the lower range will yield a different flavor then at the higher end. It also allows you to easily do a diacetyl rest. Also, as you said it will allow you to make lagers.

How did you connect the collar to the fridge?
@JayJenkins
@JayJenkins 3 жыл бұрын
Glue and then I drilled pocket holes for the screws. I also have the fridge and the collar sitting on one piece of OSB. This not only gives it a solid base but allowed me to connect both the fridge and the collar to one base.

Hi, one question, the fridge is frost or not frost, because if you have a heater and the frezeer defrost, will drip and could be cause a short circuit.
@JayJenkins
@JayJenkins 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure but it's never built up any frost, even when I cold crash to 44. The heat lamp is actually in front of the freezer tray, not below it, if it did drip it would not drip on the lamp but I've never seen any moisture in there.
