Little by little we're converting this neglected property into a home. Nothing beats a little campfire at night, listening to the sounds of nature, enjoying life. It's a great escape from the craziness we all experience today!

You can't or shouldn't be lighting fires at this time of the year dude. Very dangerous and forbidden by the Portuguese law. Looks pretty good tho 👌
@TheDutchFarmer2 жыл бұрын
@@malaka.666 Maybe filmed it outside of fire season;) Believe me... we're not risking anything with our kids, and the wider community. We've seen what forest fires are capable of. It's not pretty!

Moreno...you are an artist and an implementor. Your market gardens always looked beautiful and now it's fun to watch you put that creativity and hard work into the homestead projects. As always...happy for you and proud of you and your family for the work you're doing restoring this neglected piece of property. You are being great stewards of the land. (Kentucky, USA)

Impressive work, well done. I would like to take this opportunity to say that one of the reasons why people do not buy this type of property for a living is due to fires. The tragedies that occurred in recent years in this region are still very vivid in memory. Be careful with fire, especially in times of extreme heat.
@TheDutchFarmer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marco. Indeed! It will be mostly for the colder months of the year! No need for a fire when it's 40 degrees Celsius!!

I love seeing people coming to my country and regenerate unpopulated areas. What I think is troubling is the complete disregard for building regulations and fire prevention in these remote areas. Best of luck with your project

Ah, but there are fire regulations in Portugal; dont burn the forrest, its forbidden!!! And there are building regulations; you just have to bribe the right corrupt official and locals.

That circle of sand and stone around the fire seems pretty safe and pretty large. Especially since the fire itself is in a pit, both ON stone and SURROUNDED BY stone.

hello dutch farmer, i was hoping if i asked really nicely you might answer a question of mine or point me in the direction of some good research. i have a young family and have been looking at portugal to move to also create a tangible legacy for them. My only concern is that of the climate, i understand with good planning and land management these things can be made resilient on a micro level. Do you have any insight on the longer term outlook for the climate on the macro level in your area. ie confident that there is going to be enough annual rainfall for it not to turn into a proper desert. or is it a case of having a lot of faith in the systems you create. i understand you must be busy man, but any of your thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated. thanking you.

and all that on a rented piece of land.........what is your security if the landowner doesn't want to prolong the rent after, say, 5 years, after you've done all the heavy groundwork, or some official comes and tells you to clear of (because of some regulation you didn't know about, or because you got a verbal agreement with people you trusted and they have gotten back on their word). This has all happened to me in lovely Portugal after i build my restaurant and active holiday location.
