Thanks for passing by and hope you've enjoyed watching this project unfold! It's such a pleasure to share this here with you. We've been dreaming of starting a food forest for so long and I can't believe we've finally planted the beginning of hopefully something incredibly abundant. Will definitely do update videos on how the food forest will grow overtime!! Want to start growing your own food? In my free guide I go over 6 steps to help you go from beginner gardener to year-round abundance. Download here: www.rootsreconnected.com/

Really Thankful to you for sharing your experiences with us... Will always be grateful to you for your teachings... Also, I would love to see a full fledged video on every aspect of the project..like how you came up with the pond..what all things you kept in mind, it's measurements, direction; swales earthworks, again what all you had to study before actually hitting the site.

Hey we did something very similar about nine years ago in Galicia (just North of Portugal), we also have dry summers but still get more rainfall than Portugal. Still, we found that in these mediterranean climates, we had much better success planting trees directly in the swales, much less watering to establish them this way. We never had waterlogging problems with the trees, especially on a slope. When you add organic material swales get very absorbent and suck the water down really well, unless there is really hard clay. Anyway we have some really nice drone shots of what this type of project looks like when it is mature on our channel if anyone wants to see!

@@TheDutchFarmer I wonder did you buy the machinery or is it relatively easy to hire a machine? I wouldn’t mind renting a machine periodically to get some big tasks done on the land
@petervermeer.49042 жыл бұрын
@@kohtime ..My guess is that the guy (with the machine) is hired. You can let them come for an afternoon, for a swimming pool as an example. Or for a few full days, in this case. You can also in this area hire people, local farmers, for a day with big tractors if needed. So you don't have to buy all the big machines yourself.

I would love to hear about this as well. What is the triangle with pointed ends and a rock hanging fromt he string.
@SamsLiberty2 жыл бұрын
@@duanepaquin1665 I believe he is using it to create a line on contour for the swale. It is a clever way of finding a level point. The rock will settle to a plumb line if the points are level. It appears to have been used historically. I found more on it by searching 'Ancient Egypt Level and Square'. But this is the only place I have seen it used for staking out a swale, clever!

I love your swales because you natural resources, unlike agribusiness in the US where everything is designed for the use of large equipment.
