I've seen this method done, it can be very effective! If you have a lot of weeds this is a great substitute to plastic or herbicides. Good stuff!

In your land , you can make many ponds, then collect the rail in your ponds, around the ponds, plant your trees and grape vines, you can do it on all your land, you can grow, walnuts', Almond, specially Pistachio trees, and Grape vines, grapes and Pistachio can grow excellent if you collect water in winter and all summer can grow excellent, all you have to do, after your ponds are dried, use a heavy roller and kill the weeds and your had soil after it is done with roller will keep moisture all summer. fig also can grow very good in your land, plant them around your ponds and sell a lot. your soil is fantastic for fruit trees, you can grow pomegranates real good, with fig trees and pomegranates, do not buy them, just cut some branches from a good fig and good pomegranates then stick in the ground, keep it moist for the first year, until the root be strong, then fig can grow by itself, pomegranates need water every 7 days, same as orange , I am growing my fruit trees just like I write to you, you can grow almonds and walnuts from seeds, remember, do not use grafted fruit trees, use seeds or branches to grow, grafted trees can not grow in harsh places, always put two almonds and two two walnuts , you can also grow them in pots and then grow them around your ponds. good luck. use irrigation and drip water for your vegetable and use ponds for your trees,

I've heard from people who practice crowding their plantings claiming that it increases competition among the various species and leads to faster growth. Racing for height to capture more sunlight is an example of this. There is also the idea that roots don't stay by themselves but intermingle creating a more diverse subterranean ecosystem that encourages symbiotic relationships. For instance water storing plants such as cactus and succulents keep their roots hydrated which keeps the soil moister and ends up helping more water thirsty plants. Think of a pot luck dinner: everybody brings something different and that leads to a feast one could never enjoy on their own.

About the moles. My grandpa had the same problem in a property my grandparents had in Soria, in the centre-north of Spain. He brought in snakes: non venomous and native to the Iberian peninsula, natural prefators of the moles. the guys were EXTREMELY effective. I dont know the details of the story because, sadly, my grandpa is dead and I never got arround to ask more about it.

Not sure if it was already mentioned, however, in the amazing Netflix documentary ‘The biggest little farm’, it seems that they have resolved the moles issue by introducing other predators such as owls. Owls in fact eat moles and if they exist in your area, you could buy some owl nesting box so that they can perhaps find home on your land.

hey, have you thought about getting some beehives as you have this beautiful garden and it's something about being able to get honey on tap so you can pick up honey whenever you want. I love your goals and the way you make it all look so amazing. but I think you have to find out how it is best, I would say flow hive is a good way and watch videos and study it. all the best from Denmark

Separate and use your urine, since you are off grid, to water your woodchip pile. It adds the nitrogen and will break down the woodchips (carbon) faster. Urine can also be used to break down old tree stumps faster if those are on your land.

I use fruit trees as natural shade in my garden zone. I also have 30 beehives on the other side of the property so once they bloom my bees hit them instantly.
