Aquaponics is one of the best ways to grow sustainable food on a small scale with large yield. We decided to go with tilapia but you can raise many other types of fish. Flow us for more updates.

Nice job Coop. Looks great. Be careful with auto feeders, they can wreak havoc. A sponge filter or two powered by air or a maxijet powerhead will help clear up the fish revisor.

I have been shocked at how much I loved this series. I'm not much of a fish eater. But, this whole "self sustaining garden" idea is something I may give a try. I have basically all the "ingredients" to make this myself. I dig it.

look in raised bed too for planting your vegetable. you start your plant in the tote then transfer them in the raised bed. this will give you more growing space.

That's what I'll start doing is transferring it's very easy from this

Just countersink the 'pond' part into the ground some to make it easier to reach the top for pruning, etc. and it would be perfect.

Coop have you looked into black soldier fly composting ? It would be great for your setup , you can turn your food waste into black soldier fly larvae that are extremely high in protein. Perfect food for the chickens/ ducks / fish.

I just started to do some composting to get some worms, I'll look into the soldier flys
@DustySteel2 жыл бұрын
You talked about how the fish will eat anything, we are what we eat, if the black soldier fly larvae eat healthy then the compost will be very healthy. If your fish eat healthy, then so will you. Pigs could be healthier, but not super healthy because they don’t have sweat glands to remove toxins. Fun fact; if someone is allergic to corn, then they can’t eat anything that eats corn.

@@thebogettibunch the larvae are pretty ravenous , they have quite the appetite. And can turn veggies into great protein. Which is pretty awesome if you ask me.

Thank you for sharing how a set-up actually works. I was having the hardest time trying to find an informative video about how this all works. 😊

What happens if you loss power? Solar??
@roysebastien45982 жыл бұрын
instead of using house electricity go with a small solar panel, a 12v pump and a battery

Great idea! Plenty of sunlight in his backyard. Would be awesome to see it fully self sufficient. Would also be cool to see some sort of automatic fish feeder incorporated into it as well

Thats the plan to do at some point, will just cost a bit to include batteries and all
@ocn2u Жыл бұрын
@@thebogettibunch use an old DeWalt or Milwaukee battery from a broken drill or something with a solar panel to charge it during the day and run a low voltage pump at night so the battery will last till the morning and start charging again when the sun comes out

Hey coop do you think they can eat chicken droppings? I know fish and chicken poo is great for fertilizer but I am curious if they can eat that kind of stuff. If you get a solar panel and battery the pump could be completely off grid, you could even make a video on it and collect whatever revenue comes from it.

You should put a gutter system on the shop to divert all roof water to 55 gallon drums and finally to a spicket to attach a hose , it rains alot in fl so you can collect that water for re usage , also see if you can run the fish and vegetable garden on solar to a storage system for rainy days and nights , then I'd say a few pigs and a cow and you have the complete check list for a legit farm 🚜 eieio that's super dope , string bean's are super tasty fresh ... one day when I have my own property I will have a setup where I can live off of the land ....
