Thanks for saving me a bunch of troubleshooting. My fuse failed too. Appreciate the help!

The perfect fix. Ordered 2 fuses so I have a spare but I moved wire away from the "pot" to keep the fuse cooler. No problems since, its been 8 months. Thankyou.

Once you replace the fuse, how do you keep it from blowing again when descaling again?

My Keurig K-Duo was a month short of five years old when it went totally dead last week. I checked the thermal fuse but it shows continuity so this fix will not work for me. Thanks for the excellent video just the same. I am still looking into it and I currently suspect the power supply. To those of you replacing your thermal fuse: it doesn't matter which way the fuse goes in but I recommend using crimp connectors - NOT SOLDERING - to replace it. NTE seems to have gone out of business but I believe this particular device is a one-time thermal fuse. Soldering it will likely cause it to go open - forever. Don't forget to put the high-temperature sleeving back in place around the fuse so it doesn't short to the heating tank. Even though NTE may be closed for good I was able to find the NTE8125 available from various distributors. Just make sure the one you buy is rated for use at least 250V (or 277V), has a rated current of 15A and is set to open at 128°C. I found several on Amazon that meet that description. DigiKey and Mouser probably carry them as well. If my fuse had been the problem I planned to test it with no fuse, just to make sure something else didn't cause the fuse to open in the first place. But I AM a scaredy cat when it comes to electrical appliances, especially those that need to heat water. I would not run one of these coffee pots without a fuse - except for testing - since the fault that caused the fuse to open may still be lurking.

Nice. I think they had some major quality control issues on these. Mine has worked perfectly since I fixed it but I’m apparently not the only one that’s had this issue. My father in law got the same one and it appeared to be new however it wouldn’t pump any water. I opened it up and found a wire had come unsoldered from the water pump.

The fuse that you pulled out of the coffee maker was specifically a 15A 128 deg C thermal cutoff fuse? Just want to double check with you first

Correct. There is a direct link in the description but yes that’s what it is.

Thank you for the video, It helps to diagnose the problem. I ordered the fuse, however it is very difficult to connect it in its place. How are you able to put in such a narrow place. Any advices or video to show that? Thanks!

I removed it from under the bracket and pulled it away as best as I could.

So followed your advice and figured out existing thermal fuse was bad and purchased a new one. Unfortunately I amde the mistake of not remembering which direction the fuse needs to go and was hoping you could help me out. Thank you in advance.

No problem and thanks for watching. It’s getting close to a year since I fixed mine and it still works fine and gets used daily.

@savemoneydiy87 **Update** It was working fine and I had filled the reservoir with a white vinegar/water solution to clean out the entire coffee maker and ran both sides several times last night and this morning and blew out that fuse again. I'm not sure if I overheated it by using it so much within a short time span or if there is another underlying issue with the coffee maker. Do you think I would be OK using a thermal fuse with a slightly higher temp instead of 128°C threshold?
@savemoneydiy8711 ай бұрын
You could try it. If it was mine that’s what I’d do. I assume you are sure you got a good crimp connection on your new fuse.

It’s still going. I use it daily. It sounds like it blows if you do the descaling process but I’m not sure. I don’t ever do that.

Weird…cheap fuses maybe. Mine was 37 days old and blew after brewing a regular pot. I have a new one coming via warranty but figure I’ll fix this one as a backup.

Loved your video, told this 64 year woman what to do...and then again what not to do. I disassembled easily, located the fuse and wire...snipped that no need for a fuse to be there item, (only to break again and repeat) saved the $6 and a day or two of no coffee, hot wired it together with some electrical tape like my generation Jones would do, snapped it back together and wham bam thank you mam...we are all happy except those of you that will exclaim; did I pull the city permit? the house will burn down...literally tonight (ummmm, if your that scardey cat pull the plug after using), and of course the mfg who really just wanted me to buy another one. Nope, I'm from the hose drinking, no seat belt wearing, played in the streets until the lights came on (more in fear of a whooping which is different than a beating) gal. Have lived life hard and fast and if God chooses to take me out over a fuse...then His will be done, Amen.

I have a Keurig K-1500 that stopped working. Thought it was the thermal fuse because the reservoir was emptied while still hot. Still not turning on even after cooldown, but still lets me toggle the auto-off feature. Replaced thermal fuse, but still not working. What else could it be?
@savemoneydiy87 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure. Mine would not turn on at all. If you have a meter you can try tracing your voltage until you see where you are losing it.

If the fuse you removed was bad and you remove it and straight wire it, it will work you just won’t have fused protection.
