Like most people mentioned , that top edge is a deal breaker for me. It should have been attached under the top edge of the table. The idea is great but the way it’s attached really stands out.

Only thing I would have done differently is start the pole wrap under the top lip for a more finished look. But the stain is just lovely and it certainly has the more modern fluted vibe you were going for!!

Add trim to the top edge, would look so much nicer and finished. I wouldn’t try to sell it until that happened.
@juliemarkham43329 ай бұрын
Curious to know why you didn't start under the top lip. Now, there is an edge discrepancy. Maybe if it had been sanded at an angle, it wouldn't be so noticeable. I have the same idea for my coffee table and wanted to see how someone else would do it. Thanks for sharing! 😊

I have a very similar table but with the glass inserts in top. Have wanted to tone down the color and this is so inspiring. Wondering why you didn’t leave an opening on one side to access the interior for storage. Maybe a hidden door/panel for access?

Great idea. Pole wrap is an versatile material to work with. I would like to see a finished edge at the top. What about feet or a low wide pedestal? These 80 s table were so big and hulking looking so raising it up somehow may help. I probably wouldn't have looked twice at this outdated table and certainly wouldnt have a vision for it.

In addition to the raw edge as mentioned numerous times before, I didn't like that there was nothing supporting the pole wrap on the sides. I wouldn't like to own something hollow. It could be damaged too easily.

When I glue something like the wrap you used I lay a wood strip over the edge and then clamp the area. It gives me a more uniform seal and I don't need as many clamps.

It's beautiful but I'm OCD and I think I would be annoyed that there is a bit of a gap at the top with your wood you wrapped around and it sticking to the table. I think I would have to put a flexible would trim around the top to finish it off. Great job!! I have never seen this wood you used.

I was helping a friend dispose of his son's 1980s furniture, after his son passed away. I listed the items on Marketplace, and was going to give them away, but put a small price on them, just so people would show up (like $10 for a table & chairs, and $5 for a side table that looks just like the coffee table in this video). I was SHOCKED at how many people (young people, no less!) who REALLY wanted 80s pieces. I was inundated with requests. So before you change the look of something, you might want to see if someone wants it in it's original 80s glory. :)

@carrietale8 ай бұрын
I don't personally like the top edge, BUT it does match the second, rectangular inspiration picture. I'm not very familiar with Scandinavian style furniture but it seems to have that vibe. Putting the pole wrap under the top lip would probably have compromised the shape (and maybe not hidden that awful brass/gold trim!). My parents had a coffee table a lot like the original when i was growing up and it looked so heavy and dated, so it was nice to see how light and clean this turned out

I like this…the beaded wrap is cool. I don’t like how it looks unfinished at the top with gaps. I think if you’d put the wrap underneath the trim, it would have looked a lot better. Either that or fill in with a bead of stainable caulk or wood putty. Interesting nonetheless.

Top edge spoils it imo. Covering up the original brass trim and beautiful legs 😢. But one day someone will get a nice surprise when they remove the pole wrap. Doubt it will sell for much as is.

e I am watching this,I am screaming,Please,put a trim over the wrap....everything looks great except the unfinished top or the wrap.
@nathanmyles37853 ай бұрын
Probably would've been better to just sand it down and paint wash it to a newer school color with the grain still showing. Either that or fill in the gap between the flutes and the top with putty sand it flush and smooth, draw in the wood lines in then paint wash it. Lot more work but it would've completed the look. Or use the gap and incorporate some led lights in it.

It's not pole rap, it's called tambor and you use contact cement to apply it!!!
@minimaker56009 ай бұрын
I don't think this is a real tambour door material, not if you can slice through the backing with a utility knife. These days manufacturers can make some really nice look-alike versions of more expensive materials. A pole wrap sounds like it would work for that very nicely.

I think it needs legs... cylinder shaped legs. It looks weird with all that bulk around it without any opening... it needs to get lifted from the floor.
