Okay Harry, new sub here… hinge a piece of plywood with a 2x4 over the feed chute to do the pushing of the smaller pieces so you can keep your fingers and save time. Thanks for the videos.

Hi Harry, I just wanted to say great video. I've been thinking about how to build something like this. One thing I would mention is when you're adding music to the video, you need to lower the volume a little. When the music came on, I had to lower the volume settings to about 2% volume, and when you speak I had to raise the volume back up to 70% volume. You might want to work at the mixing in the sound so that it isn't necessary to change the volume.

Harry. Move the ramp down more on the leading side so it can actually grab and pull the foam in. Use the spinning drum to your advantage to actually grab and tear in the foam chunks. Think of it as a planner wheel. Shoving it directly on top will give you push back. Also, to prevent bigger chunk from getting thru, place a tough screen bellow the drum on the bottom side so it will force the foam to get re mulched or pass the screen.

It seems like Harry is on the leading edge with this home front technology/hobby. Has any DIY person made 4 x 8 sheets of EPS concrete ? I think it would work great for external sheathing. Better than OSB. Water damage is a leading cause of building problems, I think this material would prevent that.

Suggestion put some vinyl clear plastic over the opening that way keeps chunks in. I would also look at something to feed the styro in wouldnt want my mittens that close to them teeth. lol. Every time I see “styrofoamcrete” I’m thinking about that French bubble palace, that ferrocement home that’s is organically shaped and all round everywhere but build with compact cement sprayed on rebar steel and therefore non insulated. A ferrocement style build with an inner and outer metal frame/ mesh provides a nice way to make a three dimensional shape as a house to fill in. A farm build with a thick consistently shaped wall simply by welding in spacing to pour into with a frame build out of triangular trusses from rebar welded in place in a rond framing/ welding jig. You have some reusable woorden jigs to form the vertical rebar trusses depending on the different room shapes and other elements like connecting overflows, tunnels etc. Two dimensional vertical standing frames with fixed welded triangular rebar trusses horizontally tied together with some thin criss crossing rings of rebar all dressed in chicken wire and then layer by layer filled with styrofoam concrete. This then all covered with a final sprayed concrete smoothed out layer on the in and outside of the three dimensional frame that was filled with the “styrocrete” slurry. I think it would comes out this any as a beautifully shaped and well insulted building.

We were careful & had in fact made a feeder to push the foam pieces in at a faster, more careful pace. It wasn't fast enough - the New Shredder is it for us. Extremely fast, safe & easy to build. I appreciate you and your channel. Brofest over.😊 There was one video of a shredder that used 4 skilsaw blades. That is not less safe but it sure was fast. I will see if I can find it. I am almost 60 and would like to live out the rest of my days intact. I am very intrigued by styrocrete. I used to have a concrete company with one mobile mix truck, one delivery driver, one bookkeeper, one receptionist, and one janitor. All of them being ME! I used to pull (fill) a cylinder and send it to the lab. They would do a crush test and give me the results. Have you or any of the other channels done something like that?

Works very good , just watch your hands bro .. Looks like it could do some damage on fingers .. I would do some plexiglass over it .. Put foam in on one side and use something to push it in with .. Or just keep pushing foam in

Great job Harry. You said that there is an internal pipe on the inside so the caps are not crushed in. I wish you would have elaborated more on that. Is it a pipe that covers the 3/4'" threaded bar? So the nuts have something lock against? Any chance you remember the size screws you used?

I see 3 issues with this style: 1. Noisy and pollute gas motor 2. Dangerous because requires push in 3. Slower than the electric version To me the electric lawn mower is the best choice. It removes all 3 obstacles above and way simpler to build. I already built 2 electric lawnmower leaves shredder. Worked excellent! They work on styrofoam too. Dual use. I have to build the additional auto bagging for styrofoam. They will be used for styrofoam aircreed insulation for metal shed. I cringe at the price they charge for foam insulation. No thank you I do it myself for 1/5 of their cost. Simpler is always better!

Thank you for posting this. I wanted to build a shredder. I took 5 mins and found a company in Phoenix AZ a few hour drive for me that sells recycled Styrofoam in 9 cubic ft bags. I'm sure when the time comes I can negotiate a better price on a larger volume once I know the cubic ft need I will have.

I love your aircrete videos. The shredder does work however a new design is in order. I would say the shredder wheel needs to have a larger diameter which will allow for a wider feed hopper. You want to be able to just throw the Styrofoam into the hopper and have it do the rest two things I see one shredder wheel diameter needs increased in size To allow for a wider shredding surface . The other is those screws I think the reason you’re having to put some force to get it to shred is because of the flat head on the screw when spinning the flat heads together well sort of act as a flat surface and therefore requiring a downward pressure. I guess you would have to grind the heads off all those screws to see if that theory holds true also it might work better with rows of shredder teeth which have spaces wide enough between each row to allow for the Styrofoam to fall down in between the rows of shredder teeth.

Google: reground Styrofoam. There are companies who recycle Styrofoam into the small pieces all over the country. People commonly use the reground Styrofoam for homemade bean bag chairs.

Any larger nuggets that mite get through will get reduced by the blower blades.. It will not affect the EPIC mix.

I read somewhere that styrofoam really good at keeping it from cracking and that you can increase amount of asphalt with shredded styro Now i cant for the life of me find that video What are your thoughts?
