awww that was so sweet...the look on your son's face.. I like this project. It can also be made for a temporary table..to move it about. I know a woman who often is trying to balance her lap top on her legs when she's sat out on the patio

Awesome! I have watched several home school desk build videos and they are all very nice plans, but the idea of being able to fold them later is the answer to my dilemma. I am the grandmother/teacher during this crazy time. Some time in the future these desks will be tucked away or sent home in the back of their Mom's car. Thank you for designing this desk and sharing it with us.

I just completed work on this. I used the instructions and the only thing I got stuck on was where the ideal pitot location was where the 2 legs cross. It also came out a little wobbly so I may need to reinforce the legs a little bit with a 1X3. I think you could get away with one that was more like 24-28" wide though and only 16" deep on the top.

Ruby, I would say the more people that can help the better. Many hands make light work. Anyone with carpentry knowledge should be able to easily make the desks. Let me know how it goes.

How many boards do I need for 2 desks? I want to price out wood for it, our prices here have skyrocketed, framing stud has more than doubled, almost $5 a board! I'm not sure if I want 2 folding desks, or 1 L desk yet.
@GoodlyEarth4 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie, with the price of wood going up maybe a non folding desk will work. Look at my other video I just posted the other day. I built that desk for $20. If you don't like that one let me know and I'll help you price out the wood.

@@GoodlyEarth I saw that one, but I like how this folds away. If I have a stationary desk, it will have to stay in a bedroom, so the portability is nice! My husband gets the veteran 10% discount at lowes, so that helps! I have a table saw and miter saw, access to circular and jig saw, and planned to ask the neighbor to borrow his router to round edges with whatever I build. I just want my kitchen table back!

Could you add info on different height for size of child? These seem too high for smaller kids.
@GoodlyEarth4 жыл бұрын
The reason it seems high is due to the bottom of the box. Yes, you can definitely make the legs shorter, just cut the legs before you install. Maybe take off 3 inches. That should do the job!!!

@GoodlyEarth4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alyssa, you can paint or stain it right away.

@@GoodlyEarth So before I build it? 😀
@GoodlyEarth4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, you can stain after the pieces are cut out. On this project you can stain the legs and top before the final assembly if you'd like. That way you get all the tough to reach spots.

If someone wanted to donate towards the project for the kids in shelter for whom desks are made, what’s the easiest way?
@GoodlyEarth4 жыл бұрын
We have a GoFundMe set up. We already gave the shelter their desks and they will contact us if they need any more, but we are still making others for children in our community. Here is our GoFundMe link www.gofundme.com/f/building-desks-for-distant-learning-children?B2300-co-team-welcome
