Frugal filmmaker - Excellent idea. I can see how the whole assembly could be made out of basic hardware if the proper equipment isn't readily available. Allow me to return the favor. Secure the sand bag to the back end of the boom with cordage i.e. paracord. The appropriate application of some lashing and a couple hitches will keep the bag in place. I would suggest the Clove hitch and the Rolling hitch. The bag doesn't even have to be on the boom it can be suspended below it as long as it is stable, weight is weight.

I spent the last couple of days trying to figure out this exact project. thanks for the help, I'm glad I'm subscribed to this channel. I figured out the exact same clamp to use but I wanted 2 anchor points and didn't think to use a flash bracket. Thanks so much fo the video, problem solved.

You can also do one of 2 things to the end of your boom pole. 1. Get one of those plastic end caps from broom poles. The ones that I guess serve the function of depositing the broom on a hook/hanger when not using it. Take that off a broom and superglue it to the boom pole end. 2. Drill a hole across the end of the boom pole. Now having done either 1 or 2, you can now insert a small metal rod to act like a stopper and the end and the sandbag will rest on that. Alternatively you can place a hook there and have the weigh hang from it.

Great DIY project. I've used a similar set up but this is much better. I've used a short bungee ball cord on the pole to help keep the ankle weight from sliding off.

Glue a stripe of soft-pile Velcro to the boom pole and hook Velcro on any thing you want to stick.
