Thank you so much for this video! I thought I'd do my own. I bought a kit with the LED-UV curing light and the gel colors, but it came out sticky and was separating the next day. I went to KZbin, and you came up first and "showed me" why they were sticky. I then watched more videos that answered more questions I had. I landed on THIS video and realized that I had missed some steps--especially the cuticle removal as I really wasn't clear what it was anyway--in attempting my manicure 😁. After viewing it a couple of times, I removed the gel and followed this video step by step. My nails came out beautifully! I'm so excited!!! I'm inspired to get my nail tech license and start my own natural nail business. Most all the nail shops I've gone to worked hard to persuade me to get tips and showed disappointment when I didn't. There's definitely a market for natural nail services here in Texas. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us DIYers. To share such detailed and concise information with us says a lot about your confidence in your own skills, abilities and integrity. That's a lesson in itself. For clients who has gone a very long time without getting their nails done and now their eponychium has grown out onto the nail plate, would you cut that extra skin in this case?

I’m confused. Is gel polish manicure safe for the nail? Is it damaging? Also is it safe to use nail press on?

What can be damaging is the prep and removal. Cutting skin around the nail that shouldn’t be cut, filing down the nail plate making it thin… and peeling pets of the nail plate up when picking off the product instead of soaking. The product itself can be harmful if you have allergies to any of the ingredients or if the product is cured to ur skin or left un- cured. If you are manicuring properly and using the product properly you will likely not suffer any damage or reactions. And your nails will stay healthy

any tips on keeping gel nails shiny? after a week my nails look dull and slightly yellow?

This one is tough because it really just depends on the topcoat you were using. Some stay shinier than others and some are stain resistant while others are not. The only thing you can do is try to figure out what’s causing the stains so that you can work your hands better with it, you can use like a microfiber cloth that you clean eyeglasses with to wipe the nails and get an ice shine back on there, sometimes with certain stains you might be able to wipe some or most of it off by just using a little bit of acetone or alcohol. You don’t want to wipe too hard because they will dull the nail. But a quick wipe can definitely help without affecting the shine. I haven’t done reviews on topcoats for a while and honestly have so much product to review but I’ll definitely be getting on it stay tuned and hopefully we can find a topcoat that stay shiny and does not stain and I promise no one does reviews more thorough than I do 😉

Is it safe to use gel polish, or gel products in general while pregnant or breastfeeding?! I would think that it could be dangerous from the smells and exposure to the UV/LED lights.

Gel polish or gel products in general have almost no odor you really don’t smell anything unless you’re really up close to it. With The UVLED lights, unless you are someone that has a serious sensitivity to it, you really get the same amount of UV in an LED light as you would sitting outside in the sun for 15 minutes. LED lights are better because they have less UV but every type of artificial light has UV in it that includes all the lights we have around our house. There is definitely no scientific medical research that can tell you for sure one way or the other whether or not it is “healthy“. Gel products are a form of plastic that we are fusing onto our nail beds …. overtime I’m sure that is definitely not the healthiest thing we can do but it’s kind of on the same level as all of the lotions, shampoos, perfumes, creams, food…. Unfortunately almost everything that we consume or topically apply to our skin it’s not good because our bodies little by little are absorbing all of the parabens and horrible chemicals. I maintained Joe manicure throughout my pregnancy and I have had multiple clients throughout their pregnancy that do it neither have ever had any kind of issue or reaction and I would say although I am not a scientist or a medical professional, I would say there really is no serious obvious concern with doing gel polish while you are pregnant. But if you are someone that does everything you can to be healthy and to minimize hazardous products we put on and in our bodies and I would say stay away from gel because at the end of the day it’s plastic that we are fusing on tour nails with an LED light. I hope this was helpful in giving you some more insight and helping you make a better decision for yourself 😉
