We have used the kzbin.infoUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

Two comments from someone who has gone thro this exercise personally. Mine is a 5kw Honda. Heat is a big problem and having a high temp. shutoff safety switch is a good add on. I did this but my criteria is to limit temp. rise inside the compartment to 10-15 F. I had a non powered 17"sq intake and a 16S AC Infinity fan (16" shutter fan) on the exhaust side (17" sq outlet). That was my 3rd iteration providing 3,000 cfm air flow. This done according to the theory that fans are easier to replace than generators. My safety switch by the way is a 50 C or 122 F shutoff temp. Another consideration is that generator shed builders ignore the fact that generator failure is progressive and only in the final stage is it sudden. The things that will go bad first are the head and the generator windings. Most generators today use CGFI 110v plugs. If you connect your fan to one of these it can trip while you are not there. In my case this happened and I changed the GFI plugs for regular plugs because I am more concerned about reliability than safety since it is a stationary application.

Nice start on the shed. I have a Generac 17500 or 26K peak. Just a note I have 3 fans about 3000 CFM. One fan shut off at 130 degrees. Heck it's 100 outside in Texas summers. I encourage you to run this for an hour or more to evaluate the temperature rise. I like the status light that's slick.

Have very similar Westinghouse generator 12000df so mine is same basic unit. I used to have Generac GP15000E but genset failed at only 32hr. Generac says it was overloaded but the more research I have done Heat may have been factor? Recomend you look at separate ventilation system for genset. Make sure fan in genset gets fresh outside air. Nice work.

@@mattyockey9195 You should get longer oil life running propane. Changed the oil on my Duromax 13000HX after 20 hours, the oil still looked new! One tip, get a new oil dipstick with a magnet at the end. Definitely helps collect the little bits of metal from wear.

@JackofAllMasterofNone2 жыл бұрын
In my case the piece I cobbled together fit tightly over the exhaust outlet and is secured where it comes out of the shed. That way I can remove the generator if I have to. I just happened to have a piece of steel pipe laying around that used to be an antenna mast that worked nicely. Don't have any specific details otherwise.

How do you like the Westinghouse I was considering changing from my Generac due to the 12/15Kw having less than 5% THD. How can the remote be reliable? Don't you have to choke the generator for a Gas start up?
@JackofAllMasterofNone2 жыл бұрын
I like it. I had a few minor issues though. The starter failed within the first week. Amazon made it right though and I installed a replacement starter and it's been fine since. The THD is spot on. I have a large UPS system that monitors the frequency and it is very happy with the output of the generator. The remote works perfectly. It uses a computer controlled electronic choke. They should have spent a few more dollars and just used fuel injection. How cool would that be? But the electronic choke works well. Only other issue was when it was -20' with the wind-chill the battery decided it wasn't gonna start the generator. I guess that's not really the generators fault. I used a jump pack and it fired right up, so a battery heater might be in the future.

Do you have any concerns or problems with exhaust getting in the door there next to the unit?
@JackofAllMasterofNone Жыл бұрын
No. It blows away from the door and the door is to a garage, not the house. Have a CO detector just in case, but have never had problems. The air from the exhaust fan is so strong that it dissipates all the exhaust

NFPA 37 standards that most standby units are built to require an 18 inch clearance from the residence. However, all also require a 5 foot clearance from openings to livable space. Let’s face it.. I’m in the generator business and am horrified from a risk of fire perspective on every single one of these generator “sheds” that people put next to their largest single investment and asset, BUT…I’m not going to list my objections here. They are not based on people using portables instead of standby though…some folks can’t or won’t spend the money on a standby which I certainly understand. I’ve advised several folks on steps to make the portable more successful in their applications. All I will say is that your exhaust is way too close to door there. Im assuming that door leads to a garage or storage room so it probably will never become a major issue. With that said…please install a carbon monoxide detector there if you have not. It’s probably hard to find how many ppm will build up there, as I doubt Westinghouse has bench tested the unit in the particular fashion you are employing it so err on the side of caution please
