I made my first batch and used blackboard chalk from the dollar store and I pulverized it in a Bullet blender. Then I added my ingredients together and started using it, but there were tiny bits of something akin to large pieces of sand showing up on the canvas. While spreading the concoction for the third I realised that the small pieces were nothing more than un-disolved chalk powder. I should have sifted the powder to break down the to a finer texture. I strained my liquid mixture through a small kitchen to see if that will help. When I was finished the strainer was full of lumps. Otherwise it works good.

Thanks for your videos! I've been thinking about trying to paint, and all of the content you provide is really helpful. I'm a 27 year old guy and want to try it out, but I suck at drawing and hate the feeling of giving up on something after being excited about giving it a shot. Plus, I live with my brother and feel like I really need my own space to be creative. Maybe someday though... Until then I'll continue to watch your channel and try and learn what I can, so thanks again!

I suck at drawing too. Like, I would get an F on an assignment with straight lines and circles. But I was able to create some interesting stuff with a computer which I then was able to trace and finally paint on canvas. Got several hanging up in my house. Also, back in highschool I wanted a really Dali-esque album cover for my band. I drew the scene I wanted, which looked like garbage, and then had an artist friend redo it with proper technique and it turned out amazing. Decide what is important to you, the learning process, the end product, relaxing time waster, whatever. And then figure out a process that works for you. Creating and discovery go hand and hand.

On the talcum, as long as you use it while wearing a particle mask (as dyers should) there’s no issue with mixing it into a non-aerosolizing product.

alot of painters like some weave, I really dont want a flat surface, the weave helps with blending and adding some variety to the brushstrokes, on a perfectly flat surface the strokes are just out there so visible, you have to work a lot harder in the end to make the texture so things dont look so uniform. Uniform looks fake.

Thank you for the video, for once I already have all the ingredients needed. Does this GESSO RECIPE prime hard surfaces to paint with Acrylic Paints? I paint Glass and Plastic Bottles, Glass Jars, Glass Windows. I also paint Earthenware Plant Pots which are semi porous, Tin Cans, Galvanized Buckets, Watering Cans and Garden Furniture which are mainly bare and porous wood! Plus the odd Old Barrow, so as you can imagine I go through gallons of GESSO. The price of GESSO seems to increase by the week just lately as you'll already witnessed. I try and keep all costs as low as I can for my customers but I've not yet been able to cut my prices when it comes to GESSO!!! I always finish my paintings with an outdoor dead flat Matt or Silk varnish. But I need to be sure that the GESSO stops cracking, pealing and lifting of the acrylic paints and varnish. Have you experienced any of theses when using your own version of GESSO? Thanks for the video and I'm looking forward to using the GESSO and most of all knocking down my prices for my customers. Thanks once again, take care 👍😷👍

hi there. you mentioned in the video that the sealed container will last about a week. sometimes i go weeks before doing a new painting. does this mean i need to throw out any homemade gesso that goes beyond a week? what happens if i use "old" gesso. thank you!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I simply add more water to keep my gesso lasting longer. Some of my gesso jars can last for weeks when sealed. Hope this helps. 🎨🍷

how long does it take for your gesso to dry ? anyone
@maguzmcstudios488 Жыл бұрын
Acrylic gesso is usually OK for a new gesso coat after and hour, but if you are sanding between coats then recommend two hours. For the final curing time (you can apply paint on top of it) recommended 48hrs but in some cases it can be even 24hrs depending on drying conditions.
