While this is a very impressive build of an Alice Frame, i need to make a suggestion for those who cant build something like this. As a prop builder I wouldnt recommend making an Alice Frame when theyre relatively available online between $40-$50 dollars on Amazon, cheaper at an Army Surplus, and if your lucky, a couple of bucks at a thrift store. Doing the math on how much the matterials are, the time and production, i honestly recommend buying one.

I printed your plans, and doctored them a little because I’ve used wood and not foam, If this had come out the day before I’d have followed this to the tee… but on Friday I bought a cheap second hand baby backpack carrier, and cut the baby part off… it had enough frame and risers. I’ve loved this series. And I’ve got my costume ready for when afterlife comes out! 😬👍🏻

Would wearing a normal medical mask be enough if I’m heating the pvc outdoors? I don’t have a respirator
@LostWax2 жыл бұрын
A medical mask doesn't get rid of organic vapours, so it isn't going to do much as far as I know. That being said, if you heat the PVC slowly so it never gets close to burning, and you are outside with a bit of a breeze, you should be pretty safe, but of course that's up to you and do it at your own risk.

This is definitely a cheaper alternative to an actual ALICE pack frame. Is it lighter to or about equal in weight to an actual pack frame? I only ask because I'm an older Ghosthead with knee and back problems so the lighter the better.
@LostWax2 жыл бұрын
I'm not actually sure, I am guessing an actual pack frame would be lighter if it's made from aluminum. PVC is actually quite heavy for what it is.

If you hadn't been so fixated on using foam, the proton pack back-plate could have been 1/4" plywood, making attaching the pack frame much easier. I see the same thing with people who have bought a 3D printer. One guy was asking how he could 3D print a piece of 3" pipe. I told him, why spend 12 hours printing a piece of pipe that won't be waterproof anyway because of poor layer adhesion, when you can just go to the hardware store and buy it?!! 3D printers are for the impossible to find parts. BTW, awesome proton pack build!
@LostWax11 ай бұрын
Yep, you could totally use 1/4 ply. I just sometimes try to keep the supplies list as short as I can, so not having to buy a sheet of ply when you already have a roll of foam was kinda my thinking.
