First of all, that shark chair with the dory in it’s mouth is absolutely brilliant and, second of all, sanding the surfaces before applying glue should help. Getting a glue meant for silicone should also make it loads easier.

You should use rtv silicone to glue the led strip. Permatex makes some that are made to bond with rubber. It would bond really well with the shoe, and silicone tube. Silicone is super flexible, so using the shoe will not break the bond.

You must wear these on the next tech-diff. As for your LED strips: use fasteners like snap buttons. You could drive one side of the snap into the rubber, along with some super glue, glue the other side of the snap to the LED strip (don't forget to prep your surfaces), and then you've got some mechanical connection, rather than trying to glue floppy rubber that probably doesn't like glue to floppy rubber that doesn't like glue.

Matt Gray's One Day Build my suggestion for if you do this in the future, use a foam brush instead of bristled. also, probably mentioned, but you should remove the tape after your final coat while it's all still wet and the lower glue hasn't cured completely, will come up much cleaner.
@maxximumb
@maxximumb 5 жыл бұрын
Matt, to stick the LED strip to your shoes I'd suggest using either a glue designed for shoes like Shoe Goo, or a barge (not the boat) glue (aka contact adhesive). The shoe glues are designed to stick to rubber, so should be good for the LED strip too. The barge glue is good because it will stick almost anything to anything. Apply to each surface, wait till it's almost dry, then press the two things together, and that's it, they're stuck together forever (nearly). Downside of barge glues, you have to get it right first time. Once the 2 glued surfaces touch, they stick and it's difficult if not impossible to separate.

To attach silicone-covered LED strip to your shoe, I'd recommend buying some clear silicone RTV and using that to glue it on. You'll want to clean the surface of the shoe sole with acetone before you glue it, and you'll want to use masking tape or similar to hold the strip in place while the RTV cures.

Hey matt, most shoe sole are rubber. If you'd like to attach some Led strips permanently to the shoes, perhaps some rubber cement? Apply a layer to the back of the LED strip, wait for it to dry, then put a layer on the shoe sole. The rubber cement should melt the sole's slightly and weld the strip to the shoe, probably the most durable thing I can think of. Really liked the idea for the LED shoes though!

Admittedly I'm in the US but you can find around here what is colloquially called "pimp stores" in malls and the like. They sell big padded suits, canes, dress shoes, etc. All in garish but cool styles. My girlfriend got some glittershoes from one of these places which was a miracle because she wears a US Men's 14 and almost no stores carry above a twelve.

Maybe try sanding down the rubber edge of the shoes a little before gluing the tape back on. I can't say I've tried it with shoes, but when patching a bike inner tube it's what you do to help the glue stick to the otherwise smooth rubber.

For te LED shoes I was thinking: instead of glueing them on the side, why not do some inciscion on the edge of the shoes, put the stripe in it, and then cover it with silicon so it should stick and you will not be able to see the individual led but a more diffused and homogeneous spread of color
