Time to play Gloomhaven and Frosthaven on some 3D terrain :) Thanks for watching!

Totally Badass, my Guy!!! I’ve been thinking about just doing walls and pillars for Gloomhaven. I never thought of the terrain totally replacing the game tiles. Love it, Bro!!!
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude I think so as well! If you just want to make the walls and pillars you could probably do similar steps as I did for them, or alternatively just do the bricks how I did on a thick sheet of paper, something like that so they're not sticking too high above the floor tile itself. Hopefully that makes sense lol. If you have any questions about anything let me know. Thanks again man I appreciate it!

I can't believe Frosthaven will be delivering so soon. Feels like just yesterday the campaign was happening. This is super cool and looks incredible, great tips all throughout too, really helpful breakdown.

And also probably equally easy to setup as it is to sort through the chunks of different terrain tiles that come with the game. Might actually fit better in the box too, haha.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
Yea ,man it'll be here in no time! And thanks bro I appreciate it, had fun doing it as well, a great learning experience. Always looking to try different things and happy I did it. And definitely a better alternative than buying some of the expensive terrain sets out there. Haha yea the setup with the boards was crazy. I actually ended up putting the floor tiles in a multi sectioned folder and placed them in there alphabetically. So I could look at the scenario for what tiles it needed and just flip through the folder. But the new problem it created was I couldn't fit that in the box lol, so it just takes up even more space. Can't win with Gloomhaven setup!

great tips. I would suggest a hot wire cutter over an exacto knife though. Way easier to use. There are tons of tutorials on how to make one for next to nothing on youtube or you can always buy one from a hobby shop. They make super quick work of foam and are a must for anyone who plans on doing a lot of work with it.
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
Good suggestion, I didnt even know you could make your own. The only kind of hot wire cutter I saw when I was looking into it was a semi expensive piece on amazon. And I wasnt sure how much I would be doing past this project so I stuck with the knife. But you are right, for anyone planning on doing a lot of this type of work, those hot wire cutters would do wonders. If I do more terrain or crafting in the future I'll look into making my own. Thanks for the input, and good advice👍

Haha thanks dude, those double sided tiles took Forever to make, especially since that was the first time I was ever making terrain in general. Home Depot insulation foam and testers of Behr Paint go a long way. Oh I also decided to purchase a really cheap wood burning pen tool. I burned small holes on the bottom of my hexes and purchased tiny magnets on Amazon. With the magnets in the bottom of my hexes, I also bought a sheet of metal from Home Depot. The magnets help prevent the foam hexes from moving on the sheet of metal (especially during those epic moments).

Great work. I've been crafting my own handmade terrain for the Gloomhaven JOTL

Amazing video, stumbled upon your video and you inspired me to do my own tiles as well. Didn't think I'd be able to do it, but so far so good, only painting left. Have a problem though. I'm using a different material and the tiles are a bit slippery. I'm worried it's gonna go all over the place when we play. Any suggestions how prevent that? Hopefully someone will be able to help me..
@BrewsandBoardgames2 жыл бұрын
Hey man thank you so much for checking out the video and hope I hope it helped! And that's awesome to hear you were able to do your own tiles as well! Very cool. One suggestion, and something I was considering doing for mine, is to buy some small magnets or something small with a bit of weight. Cut out a spot for it in the bottom of the pieces and glue it in there. Might need a few per piece, but that would weigh it down pretty well. Thanks for the comment dude and let me know what you end up trying.
@TheFooSid2 жыл бұрын
@@BrewsandBoardgames Great suggestion! I think I'll do that with my next project actually. I have some experience now and lots of ideas thanks to you, so 2nd time gonna be even better. The material I had available now was a bit different kind of foam - much thinner, so I ended up using velcro. Doing this for JOTL, so I outlined the design and pasted small pieces of velcro on hexagons and on the back of the pieces. It holds them just enough so they don't move and is loose enough to have some wiggle room in case pieces do not fit together 100%. But you have to be careful with removing the pieces after the scenario to not damage the tiles. Overall, as long as you use small pieces of velcro just to lightly hold them in place it's great. A cheap solution and was the only thing I had available in vicinity that would work.

Those tiles look amazing! I´m in the process of making my own and i was wondering, how did you make the wooden texture? Anybody got tips for that?
@BrewsandBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hey dude apologies about the delayed response. Thank you so much! And I think that is awesome you are also building your own stuff as well! So the wooden texture didnt turn out exactly how I was hoping, but the method that I used, which I learned from other talented channels was to make some bigger lines in the floor, then using a wire brush over the whole piece. I'll put a link to a good video below. Black Magic Craft is who I watched for most of the techniques I used, excellent channel. Hope your stuff turns out awesome man! Very impressive. How do you store everything? I bought a bunch of 3d printed pieces (traps, shelves, etc.), which I store in a toolbox. I have no idea how I would store 3d room tiles.
@BrewsandBoardgames2 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you! Haha yea it's not fun, it needs an entire tub to store it all and I basically just go through and pick them out when needed. I also have a huge cardboard box full of extra pieces that are at various stages in the process.

@@BrewsandBoardgames very cool. To make searching the toolkit easier, I created a diagram that showed what pieces went in what compartments.

How many total 3 tile pieces and 9 tile pieces are needed?
@BrewsandBoardgames3 жыл бұрын
So when I was doing this project I knew I had to find a large scenario to use or eventually I would come to one that was bigger than the amount of pieces I made and it would be weird. I dont know if I used the biggest one but it was pretty big, I also didnt want to be spoiled of other setups as I hadn't finished the game. But I then I made extra on top of that. So the total count I made is; 9 hex tiles - 11 3 hex tiles - 12 2 hex tiles - 12 single tiles - 14 funky shaped tiles - 4 3 hex long walls - 16 2 hex long walls - 8 single pillars - 11 unique shaped walls - 3 Hope all that helps and I'd be glad to answer and additional questions!
