This video is a follow-up to my How-TO Build a DIY Glycol Chiller video that I posted earlier this year. If you haven’t had a chance to see this video yet, make sure to check it out here if you’re considering building your own glycol system.
I received a few questions from the How-to Build a DIY Glycol Chiller video that included:
How did I build glycol control panel?
How did I converted my AC unit to cool glycol?
What was the overall cost of my build.
I’ll address these questions plus my overall experience using this system over the past year in this video.

Disclaimer
Build a DIY Glycol system at your own risk. Be sure you are knowledgeable about wiring electrical boxes, reference Inkbirds official instructions, and check your local codes before attempting to build your own controller or modifying an AC unit.
Cheers!!!

Hey great looking panel! I have been running a similar set up but for just 1 fermentor. I really like the build and ive been thinking about a second fermenter. I was wondering what buses you used and also what you have fused I see four others? Sorry for all the questions but you got my beer geek head working

Hey Greg, thanks for the feedback! The buses on the control side are just extensions of the neutral and hot leads to help clean up the wiring. They all use the same type of bus. I believe I only used one fuse in my final design to limit the power my panel can pull. The other three aren’t used. Cheers!

What jacks did you use for the temperature sensors? I was thinking about using 1/4" TR jacks.

What is the ratio of glycol to water did you use, what kind of glycol, and does it have a rust inhibitor? I’m surprised you didn’t submerse the entire chilling coil, is that not required?
@justhomebrew
@justhomebrew 8 күн бұрын
I believed used 1 part glycol to 3 parts of distilled water. I’m not sure about a rust inhibitor. That might come down to the materials in the cooling coil. I decided to leave a little head room to avoid spillage. It would be interesting to run a test to see how much more efficient the system would be submerged and use a bigger glycol cooler. My system has worked pretty good with its current configuration. I don’t feel the need to add more glycol. I hope this helps:) cheers!

As for the glycol, check out my lasted video that goes over updates to the system. I listed the type of glycol I used in the description . I don’t remember the brand off hand.

@@justhomebrew awesome, thank you for the reply. I’m in the process of building one, and as you can see I have a bunch of questions I have been thinking about.

So you fill the cooler up with glycol or water?
@justhomebrew
@justhomebrew Жыл бұрын
It’s a mixture of glycol and water. I used a mixture of 2 gallons of water and 1 gallon of glycol.

What sensors did you use
@justhomebrew
@justhomebrew Жыл бұрын
Hey William, I used the sensors that came with the inkbird controller for my fermenters and the ac. They are pretty simple sensors, but work great with my system. Cheers!
