Replace those noisy wheel bearings before they get worse! This video tutorial provides steps to complete the process of replacing a worn 4WD hub wheel bearing assembly. In this video, I cover replacing he bearing, lubricating the caliper pins and replacing the ABS sensor wire. The vehicle in this video was a 1998 Chevy Blazer, but the process covered in the video will be the same or similar on many other GMC 4WD vehicles. Some of the vehicles that the wheel bearing process would be the same on are S10 Pickup Truck GMC Jimmy Chevy Blazer Tahoe K1500 Silverado, Sierra and many more.

Great Video Mark. I did both hub assemblies without having to watch any other videos but yours. The whole job took about 5 hours as I'm old and slow. While waiting for parts I lubed the nuts and bolts several times a day for a week and that made a big difference. Knowing the ft. lbs. helped. And yes, I too use carb cleaner on a multitude of parts...

Great vid Mark! I don't miss doing that work at all!! lol On some ABS systems I've come across, it's not good to push the pistons back in without cracking the bleeder valve loose to let the fluid/pressure vent via it. I chuckled a bit when the bearing separated......I worked in a shop for a bit and it was a common practice to "separate" the bearing like that on front wheel drive cars to swap drive shafts.....saved having to disconnect the ball joint or strut and needing to get it realigned. Not great for the bearing, but that's what they did.

Appreciate the help. Rented a 36mm socket for $22 at Oriellys. Did some damage to my 15mm hub bolts. Had to turn the wheel side to side and center to work everything apart with sockets extensions and wrenches I had.. Bearing assembly had water exposure possibly from not cleaning up surfaces well when last replaced? Wonder if any other areas let water in such as sensor etc. I cross streams quite often. Any help would be appreciated

my 2005 chevy Colorado 4x4 crew cab with 200000 miles is getting new front brakes and bearings put in today. I enjoyed your video, so I have an idea what they did, I also watched a video of knee replacement surgery, only after both of my knees were replaced, I was a bit too intimidated to watch that before hand. Up to this time except for brakes, tires oil changes, etc, the Colorado has only required a tie rod replacement and a new water pump and belt, I hope it and I last much longer.

I have a 98 gmc jimmy 4x4 that had a little over 304k miles on it when I got it from an older couple. While they were great at keeping the oil changed, just about everything else was ignored because nothing actually broke. The shocks were the original ones which I've already replaced because getting sea sick on dry land sucks. Now I'm getting the parts togeather to rebuild the steering and suspension all at 1 time. Since I'm doing the work myself, I figure I'm saving $2000+ on labor. The only thing a shop will do is a frontend alignment. Then it's on to the rear suspension.

Great videos Mark. My father in law has a Blazer that I've done a ton of work on. I was wondering if you've had any issues with the steering. His has a lot of play when you turn the wheel. I've found that it could be a couple of things. Just wondering if you have the same problem and if you plan to address it in the future. Thanks and keep up the great work

+Mark Jenkins The front end itself is nice and tight. I've replaced the upper and lower ball joints and inner and outer tie rods. There is zero play in the steering when the truck is jacked up and you grab the tire and move it. The slack in the steering is only felt when you are behind the steering wheel. I've found that it could be either the steering box or the steering linkage between the steering shaft and steering box. I haven't tried replacing either yet, just wondering if you had the same problem. Thanks

The reason to not use carb cleaner on the rotor disc surface is that most carb cleaners leave an oily residue. Spray a small shot on a window to check if you doubt. Better to take caliper off of the caliper mount bracket before removing the mount and reinstall in reverse. Makes it much easier to install the brake pads and caliper without getting dirty fingers on places you don't want them. That IS the design intent. Get mating surfaces clean (cleaner in your case) of rust and debris before installing hub with the 3 bolts and use anti-seize on mating surfaces and all fasteners. OK to use chassis grease on caliper slide bolts though. If you don't clean that grease zerk and shoot some grease in that ball joint you'll be getting more ball joint practice soon if it's not already too late. You have good mechanical skill but lack a few esoteric (google it) details that come with experience. Over all though, good job.

Well I'll start off by saying I'm a 63 year old female single and I just bought a 1999 GMC Yukon from my girlfriend that's an excellent shape on the inside it has a hundred and forty five thousand miles I loaned it to a friend and he advised me that he heard the clunking noise after coming from a road trip when I get in the antilock brake light is on and I think it's been on since I bought it but it has this humming when I'm driving it has this humming noise when I speed up the noise speeds up when I go to slow down the noise slows down the only thing that can compare it to is like having a deck of cards in your spoke wheels when you were a kid also I am on a very limited income so I really can't take it to a shop

104 ft/lb seems too loose for a hub bearing nut. Better get a second opinion. My Yukon is 177 ft/lb. Also, you can torque it with the wheel off by sticking a screwdriver in the rotor vane and rest it against the caliper.

My personal opinion is if you are going to do a job do it right, use all your clips and retainers. and as for Torque, Under and over Torqueing is extremely dangerous. it is important this is done right on jobs like this under torque could cause a part to fail and come off or break damaging the vehicle and possibly injuring or killing the occupant and as well over Torque can cause the bolt to break or the metal the part is in to become damaged and again injure or kill. so in my opinion you should be cautious in telling people you don't or wont on certain things like that.

Never use grease to lube caliper pins, it makes the rubber swell and will cause the pins to seize in the caliper! You also want to clean the bracket of rust where the hardware kit goes on, it will rust heave and cause the hardware to pinch the pads and not allow them to move free.
