Thanks for all of the love on this video and our piggies over the years ♥️ Toot and Chub have now both passed over the rainbow bridge (Chub on November 20th 2020 and Toot on June 14th 2021). We never ended up changing the cage because it worked perfectly! I can’t bear taking down the cage yet so it’s going to stay for a little while longer ♥️

I'm so sorry for your loss! I can't even imagine how I would feel if one of my babies passed away! One of my piggies got pregnant unexpectedly (free roaming in the apartment), and I was terrified that she would pass away bc she's a little over the age where they should be preggers (she's just under 1). Today she welcomed FOUR little ones into the world, and she's doing fine!

I'm so sorry that your piggies have passed on. Ours are just over a year old and we are just over the moon for them. I'm about to start work on the much larger "crib" which is why I was so glad that I found your video. We have a 5x2 c&c cage w/a loft on a stand. We will be putting it on the floor this time. I was glad to see yours worked so well. Your babies really seemed to love it. They were very lucky to have you!

Fen B it's really bad for their feet and their lungs. Small bits of wood, paper, or dust and held by a guinea pig may cause respiratory problems or bother it's sensitive eyes. It's also cheaper for fleece because you can wash it and re use it just make to get a piece of absorbent material sewn in between two pieces of fleece.

I've had a guinea pig for 3 years now (Oreo). SHe'ss been living in the same boring cage all her life, and I don't really like it. It's small. So I showed this video to my dad, but he doesn't like the idea of making the cage. UGH. At times like these, I wish I was an adult so I could do what I wanted, like making a cage like this for Oreo, plus maybe getting another guinea pig. But once I move out, I'm building this.
@zyryiah6 жыл бұрын
Maxine Federico Are you moving out soon? If not you could try the Midwest one my guinea pig (Ginger) loves it!
@ecllu6 жыл бұрын
Do you only have one Guinea pig? Because that could be the reason Oreo is so depressed. Single guinea pig s can very easily get depression. If you can get another pig, in Switzerland it’s animal cruelty. Science you can’t build a bigger and better cage, a temporary fix to jazz up your cage is to maybe buy a new hidy or change the layout. Good Luck. 😊

I love this!! I am going to build it with my dad possibly when we're done with some house renovation. I currently have one super old piggy, her companion passed recently. She hasn't really accepted any other pigs, so we're letting her live alone for the rest of her life. She's 7 or 8! I want to continue owning pigs in the future, so it'll be nice to have a decent sized cage for that. The one I have recently I believe should be bigger, because I got it from a pet shop. I was about 6 when I got my pig, so I didn't do research sadly. I know better now, and I want my Patches to live out the rest of her life happier.

My pigs have a huge outside hutch (I’m Australian). The hutch includes a run filled with bedding and a small dog house inside (which they love) and hammocks, pipes, hay racks. But what makes their pen ideal is that they have our entire backyard to graze grass on. It’s super great because you won’t need to feed them often and they get all their water from the grass. We have a large backyard and the fences aren’t completely blocked off and we have a side gate that has spaces they can easily fit through to escape however they have never tried to escape and we have 6 loyal female pigs. Once they all went to our neighbours and ate some carrots and strawberries they were growing in a small veggie patch but came back the next day. Having free run guinea pigs in my idea is the most ideal hutch as they have areas to run and graze.

Stefie Centauri i have the time and by august i should have the money to pay for them myself but my dad doesn't want any pets and already is super annoyed at my bunny. For now I play with my neighbors piggies (more like play with one and watch one be because one of them isn't very social) I've also been assessing how they live and helping them improve their care, I told the kids mom how muesli mixes are bad and she will most likely be getting Oxbow pellets and I recommended fleece too as they always had a hard time cleaning the cage which caused them to not clean it very often. They will also be getting hay soon which for some reason they didn't have.

Buy the small bottles of essential oils (piping rock.com has them super duper cheap) Then mix about 5 drops of the oil with a big amount of water in a spray bottle. Now you have a natural non harmful air freshener, that will mask unpleasant smells and also last you a very long time.

@MarrisaPlays5 жыл бұрын
you dont have to pick them up you just guide them to one side of the cage. fold up the fleece and spot clean if needed then start laying down the new stuff then guide them to the new side of the cage so you can removed the other side and lay down the other half of the new fleece. As a side note you should make a floor time cage big enough for you to sit in and then to have room and then just sit and chill for an hr or 2 while you watch a movie or read and dont try to pet them they will gravitate to you and you may eventually get more tame piggies
@mikrokosmos-pluto5 жыл бұрын
You could get them to go inside a hidey (like a tunnel or something) and pick them up once they're inside. Maybe putting some treats inside would help as well.

I got a guinea pig today, and it wasn't until I set up her cage (a 20 gallon tank) that I realized I had done it all wrong. It is WAY too small, and I feel so bad. This video has really helped me figure out how to fix this. Unfortunately she will have to stay in her tiny cage for a few days until I can get the new set up ready for her, and she will have to be alone until I can get her a friend (which I have found out is something guinea pigs need). Almost exactly like my cage just mine had sliding bars over the top because we also have other animals and it was just for extra safety! My one piggies lived till it was 8 and my other three are a bit younger but still super healthy

DO NOT DO A DOUBLE STORY CAGE PLEASE IT CAN DAMAGE THE PIGGIES!!!!! The ramp to go upward can and will harm the piggies. They do not have a good depth perception at all! They will fall off of it, and even a small drop will hurt them!

Madelyn Dogwater my ramp has sides, which they never attempt to climb over, as long as it’s not too steep there shouldn’t be an issue.

What she said ^ plus my ramp has a long piece of fleece attached to it so their paws don't get caught on or possibly under the wire. They'll be okay trust me.

Lol I have.a second story but I took of the ramp so he won’t go up but he jumps from his house to the second floor I don’t see the problem maybe it’s just mine

With our guinea pigs we put hay everywhere, not in just piles. Just encase they get cold. Its a good source of heat! Enjoyed the vid🔥

I’m redoing my pig cage because they’ve had a store bought one for years and one won’t stop chewing the wire and I’m guessing it’s because she needs more room so this was very helpful. THANK YOU!

what a great cage you guys made! i was also using dog pee pee pads under the fleece blankets, and it just became too costly. Now what we do instead is put painters plastic drop cloths under the fleece. I think the size I get are 9x12 and they work great. I also get them at my local dollar store. Using them has saved a lot of $ and the smell is not as bad either.

I use a portable playpen for my guinea pigs. I filled it with pine bedding. Then I put toys,hideouts,water, etc. It also has mesh all around it and it also has a zippable top. I love it because it is so much easier to move if you need to. But I’m just now sure if it is big enough. I have two large hideouts, a chewy log filled with food, and a wooden hexagonal ball. It’s about 3-4 feet wide. (it’s a circular shape) Any advice?

I just want to let you know that unless you have a wall on the edge of a possible second story, it can be dangerous due to a guinea pig's poor depth perception so they can and probably will just walk off the edge. I just wanted to let you know. I have two piggies as well and I am going to use this awesome video to build a c&c cage for my piggies! Great video!

Hi, I have a few questions. How many yards did you put in for the fleece? Also, how much was the white thing that went around the cage, and you cut out. I want to make this for my 2 baby piggies.
@PiggieTime4 жыл бұрын
You actually don’t need a coroplast (the white thing) or grids on the bottom. All you need is a fleece blanket, an absorbent layer (towels or pee pads are common), and a shower curtain liner to keep it waterproof
