If you add some of those plants to the top pot filled with rocks, and lower the "fountain" tube to the bottom of the top pot, you will have an excellent bog filter, crystal clear water, still have the sound of trickling water, and never have to change the water... Happiest fish! 😊

Can you tell which plants would be good for creating a big filter system? Also will these plants not need any soil in the top planter? I know pothos would be fine with just rocks and water from the bottom fountain. Kindly explain, rookie here :)

@@madhuka7079I have been observing how my plants in this mini pond are doing and found that arrowhead plant (Syngonium) is growing very well. Water always look clean (maybe because this bedroom is not bright so there is no algae problem), I think my pothos and arrowhead plant are helping the water quality control.

Thank you for asking how this pond is going. It’s been 15 months since I made this pond. All of these guppies are happy, and plants are growing too big, so I cut the bottom part off and rearranged them. I took off the filter (sponge & plastic container), I am just running the small pump now. I think plants are doing a great job acting like filters. Though I have to add new water regularly (every week) because water evaporates quickly, I hardly need cleaning. Pebbles in the top pot (fountain pot) are black, and they are easy to show the kalk scum, so I sometimes clean the top pebbles. Hope this helps ☺️

I would use scoria gravel as a base layer underneath any decorative pebbles or stones, with only a thin top layer of the decorative stones for visual appeal. Scoria is cheap, it's very lightweight due to being porous, and because it's porous it will create a large amount of surface area for nitrifying bacteria meaning that your water parameters will be healthier and more stable thus making it so you don't need to change the water as often.

So cute! Definitely gonna give this a go - thanks for sharing. Any issues with algal growth? How long before you had to change all of the water?
@livelovelaughdiy8 ай бұрын
Thank you 😊 I see a bit of algae growing under the light. But having a pump and plants helps to keep water clean for the longer time. Frequency of water change varies depending on the season. When it’s warm fish are more active than winter, so I need to do more often than winter. This mini pond has been here for about 8 months now but I haven’t needed to replace whole water yet. During summer, I pumped half of the water out and added new water once/month. Other time, I change water once/2months. But this mini pond is small, so water keeps evaporating (also my cat drinks water from the fountain!), then water levels drops fast, so I add new water every week. That probably helps to keep water clean as well, I guess.

Hello , in case i don't want to add the fish , will it develop too much moss? How difficult is it to clean
@livelovelaughdiy5 ай бұрын
I don’t think it develops lots of moss. Without fish, it’s like having plants in the large vase. I found that the area where the light is has a bit of algae on the river stones. I add new water when the water level drops (every week), I change water every 3 months, just take half of old water out and add new water. I washed pebbles in the top pot once. They had a bit of scum. I don’t think cleaning is hard, you don’t need to clean much.

@livelovelaughdiy Жыл бұрын
When you use tap water, put the water in the bucket and leave it outside sunny area for a day to dechlorinate, and bring it inside of the room to adjust the water temperature as you need. Then it’s ready to use it. If the water has chloramine in your area, aquarium water conditioner is recommended, but I didn’t use it and my fish are fine. 😊

very creative but u should have cycled the mini pond first
@livelovelaughdiy8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your advice 😊
@erikm83727 ай бұрын
How do you know that didn’t happen, though? And maybe the decor and plants she used, or some of them, were repurposed from a previous setup and had bacteria already living on them. Also, many videos are sped-up and certain steps aren’t shown, such as cycling, because it takes “too much” time. But I agree, for newbies, it would be a good tip. Still, we don’t know exactly what KZbinrs have done.
@erikm83727 ай бұрын
Also, depending what you put into a tank or pond, as far as species of plants and fish, they can be a part of the cycling process. Snails, shrimp, small fishes, and especially the plants themselves, are all part of the bacterial development. It’s most important to plant HEAVILY right away, as the roots will absorb excess ammonia and nitrites that develop in cycling. If you don’t have enough aquatic plants at first, you should really wait and not do it yet (lol), but you can also hang cuttings of pothos, tradescantia, philodendrons and other vines off of the side, with the root end in the water.
@livelovelaughdiy7 ай бұрын
Yes I admit that I didn’t mention cycling in this video, and I should have explained it. I focused more on the design of the mini pond for this video. Thank you so much for covering the info! I would love the idea of hanging plants with the roots in the water ❤️
