The varnish I used was Varathane floor finish, which many people use to glaze polymer clay charms! You can get it from places like Walmart, but I got mine here bit.ly/2WtWWhN

Thank you for this tutorial 💗 do you remember roughly how many centimetres was the your original design? And how many cm was it after shrinkage?
@AmyMade4 жыл бұрын
I usually seal my charms with mod podge before applying resin. This helps seal the sharpie and the color pencils. Color pencils are oil based so resin doesn’t stick well to it so better to seal it first.
@404HandleNotFound6 жыл бұрын
OMG I love these! Pusheen is adorable! 😍 Edit: When I make things with Shrinky Dinks, I like to take Mod Podge and seal them after I've shrunk them, let that dry, and then seal them with DecoArt Clear Acrylic sealer. This works great and doesn't wreck your pieces. This method only works on the "Ruff N Ready" Shrinky Dinks though. The ones that are glossy on both sides are trickier to seal. Mod Podge beads up on them and clear nail polish smears the Sharpie. If I can come up with a good method for sealing the glossy Shrinky Dink plastic, I'll come back and add it. Hope this helps everyone. 😊

Nad Yeah. Sharpies are alcohol based so it doesn't take them very long to dry though. I'd say they take roughly a minute to dry. If you don't have Sharpies, colored pencils work nicely as well and you don't have to wait for them to dry. :)
@serenekim54095 жыл бұрын
Does this work with sharpies? And if not, do you need mod podge or to seal if you use color pencils? I don’t have any mod podge... and I just wanted to know if they still turn out nice and smooth if you don’t use mod podge.

Oh the bleeding! I learnt it the hard way too... Instead of a sharpie, use black pencil. Since colors get darker when the plastic shrinks, it will look just as good :)
@Mintyholic6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try that. I've just seen people use sharpie or other markers in tutorials, and I'm like why does it work for them and not me?? lol
@chocopandadeamor6 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is too late but use the sharpie in the side of the plastic that is shiny and it will not bleed :)
@shionyitzumura6 жыл бұрын
UchihaShamandalie I think it bleed because she was using oil based sharpie they don’t actually totally dry and can be smudged easily. I would suggest like a micron pen or give try a water based pen as the water will evaporate in the oven heat.
@nareyakireina5 жыл бұрын
@@chocopandadeamor I usually do that anyway cause it makes the finished product look like stained glass.
@KarolinaBernolak4 жыл бұрын
@@Mintyholic they work but you have to do the color sharpies on the opisit side not where you place the black sharpie also depends on the company that made the plastic
@divinemvs23744 жыл бұрын
You can also use mod podge it helps not to make it bleed . Apply it on first before the resin. Hope this helps!

If you know how to use photoshop or similar you could edit the image so it is a a black and white image(no gray) and get the shrinky dink printable film and print them out then all you need is to color them. I guess you could print them out in color but that would cost a lot on ink and you don't get the fun of coloring them.
@milktea5435 жыл бұрын
exodous02 Only use inkjet printer! They don’t rely on heat like laser printers does. Don’t think you’d want the plastic to shrink right in the laser printer and ruin it. Haha.

I'd like to know this too. Too bad she doesn't reply back. I used Polycrylic protective finish crystal clear finish made by minwax and ruined all my hard work. I had 4 detailed sugar skulls and dropped the minwax on them (did not brush stroke it on) Ran like hell. Of course, I did all four at the same time and didn't sacrifice just one for testing or make a sample one. Of course not. So sad. :-(

What size of printed image would you recommend for a keychain (before it shrinks)?
@craftydemon5295 жыл бұрын
Sorry if you were looking for more exact measurements but in my experience I'd say maybe roughly twice or three times the size you want it to be when shrunk. One of the ones I made, before shrinking it was just under 6 inches wide and now it's 2.5 inches wide. But be careful when making large ones, when it curls it can stick to itself like mine did and was very difficult to unroll and ended up stretching. I hope this helps.
