Cold tires are always more difficult to pull off and mount. Trick I use for doing tires in the winter is once the bead is broken loose I put an old hair dryer just inside the tire and let it run for 5 min or more...once it's warmed up a bit those tires will go on/off a lot better.

I wish I would have seen this years ago. There's a certain technique with these things you need to learn and I always struggle with the first tire or two until I get the hang of it again. I put female concrete inserts in my floor so I can bolt it down temporarily, then put Allen set screws in the holes so they don't get filled up with junk. I thought the welds looked pretty good, at least they're better than mine. I welded a piece of plate between the two legs of the bead breaker, since it was flopping over on lower profile tires. I also drilled a hole for a wheel stud when that little locater dowel broke off. I appreciate the effort and experimentation. More people need to think about using what they already have. I always hit the back button when they give bill of materials that add up to more than what it would cost to buy something.

I give you a “10” for your effort that’s for sure- like others have said you are fighting the tool. If I was you- I would now make a hitch mount and hook it to your tractor- if it was more stable on the base it would work better for you!! I’m a 60 year old woman and hook mine to my truck have changed many tires. Good luck 👍🏻
@85beeper2 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm going hook it To the tractor pallet forks that will be easy to use and I can slide it On and off might even be better than mounting it to the floor

You are reading my mind on the trailer hitch mount! My HB full size wheel remover tool is in the mail:) My tire shop is 15 minutes out. If i can avoid a dop off/pickup, or waiting for a spendy 3 hr wait. Tire shops are picky w dates on remouts. Too, if i can expand my opportunities on used tires i can buy better tires. Or cheaper points. Ie... buy checy tires on ford wheels. I'm taking the gamble

Get some pool acid. Dip galvanized parts in the acid*****DO NOT BREATH FUMES******. Then rinse with water. It strips galvanize coating. Take a couple of hole saws and make a “washer” out of blue poly barrels for under pipe that goes against rim.,

I noticed that you rotated the duckbill the wrong way around.🙃 On real tire machines the tire rotates clockwise and duckbill stays in place. Mount or dismount doesn't matter. The direction always stays the same. On this tire changer we have to rotate the duckbill anticlockwise to get same effect. The shape of the head only works one way. That was one reason why it was giving you a hard time. I like how you used just as dirty and rusty steel as i did when i made my duckbill mod.🙂

Good job ; NO $ spent. Perhaps, consider having a more secure, solid heavy base. Use a couple of 3 foot railway rails, in a V or 90 degree formation. IT won't move anywhere. Weld the ends together ; or use a really heavy duty hinge. Or, male pins into 2 sections of about 6 inch high pipes, on the ends of rails - for assembly / dis -assembly. I am in process, of making tire machine as well. Using about a 16 inch farm disc, from a discer ; those round cone shaped things, as a tire/wheel base, on the vertical upright. My 16 inch rims, fit perfectly in the disc. Only have to weld 2 bolt studs, to the disc, pointing up, to bolt the wheel/rim to the disc. Then, gotta make the arm/ bracket for Mr Duckbill.....Anyway, thanks for not spending money......USE it, or loose it = the stuff most shop/garage guys collect. (from east central Alberta)
