I said 4 ml in the video. It is actually 2 ml thick plastic.

Be VERY careful regarding heat sources and your electrical setup. Speaking from a fire investigator perspective this set up has a couple cringe worthy features. I’m not knocking DIY setups...but anyone looking for a shortcut needs to recognize the extra risks involved (and legal stuff if you are in city limits) There is a reason paint booths are one of the most heavily regulated setups in Fire code! 1. Get rid of your multi-plug adapter with all the components for lights and fans. Swap it with power strip and run it OUTSIDE of the booth. Even though you are running LED’s for lights it is begging for a Fire from overload. 2. Your heater solution is clever...just watch it very closely to make sure it isn’t too close to your filter. I would highly recommend anyone doing a diy booth turn off all heaters while spraying( don’t forget water heaters in garages ). All it takes is your booth to “leak” the right amount of flammable gas and you WILL go boom. I won’t bore everyone with the science of LEL & UEL...just trust me. For all the DIY commandos or “Pros” who want to criticize my statements.... You are most likely speaking from the perspective of “there’s only a one in a million chance of the worst happening”...I am speaking from the perspective of someone who talked to the “1” in that million and have seen the devastation and regret they have. I don’t think everyone watching needs to skip painting their own stuff...heck...I’m building my own booth for some cabinet work and wanted to see others ideas. Just be aware of the hazards and avoid as many as possible.

Thank You for the serious comment. I'm looking to build a booth and the electrical/explosive aspect is my main concern. Aside from the obvious exposed wiring and lighting I'm concerned with the vapors crossing over and through the fan motors he has placed in the door.. My thought is to have a fan blowing in filtered air with several entry points on one end with several filtered exhaust exits on the other end. Using the filter material he used on the exhaust side makes sense to me. As does using a pleated HVAC filter on the inlet side to remove dust/bugs etc..... As for lighting, easy. just remove it to the outside and cut/tape the plastic housing facing inward. There should be ZERO exposed electrical igniters in the booth. I will be removing my Truck battery after driving it into the booth as well. Anybody else been down this road before? Have any other tips that might save you and I from severe injury or death? Thanks

Good points. I have a separate room enclosed in plastic and separate from the rest of the garage. Electric is all newer.No piggy backing or strips needed. My concern is how to safely heat it?? Was thinking of a ceiling mounted electric shop heater. There will be a frame insert with a large commercial fan and booth filters tacked in place and in front of the fan. There is a window opposite side that is cracked open with a filter. So there is adequate fresh air, but still want to minimize any fire hazard

The only thing I don't like is the 110v splitters piggybacked to eath other on exhaust fans and lights. Need a proper power strip there. Other than that I love it.

This blue filters are good to capture overspray before exhaust fan but you need fine filters for incoming air
@bobw36772 жыл бұрын
Yes. Those filters are meant to capture paint in the air before it goes outside. Exhaust only. The incoming air is filtered to a much higher degree. 3:43 of the video.

Nice, just a bit dangerous. The out fan must other type use, where the flammable gas is not throw the electric motor... Please, also eleminate all of the spark possibilities inside the plastic cover... Otherwise it's a cool hack!

Nice work bro. you need to add links to the items you use in your description. Sign up and use amazon affiliate links and when people click the links and buy stuff you make money, and best part is they dont have to buy the products you recomend as long as youre the last person to send them to amazon then whatever they buy in that 24hr window you get 4%, 6% or even 10% of the cost paid to you from Amazon. it doesnt increase the cost for the buyer in anyway. So on my videos I was getting people looking at audio equipment and may not buy that item but because they went there the 24hr window become active. Next thing a wife or familiy member makes a purchase and you still get it. like Ive had people buy parachute cord, bras, clothes hangers, towels, blow up dolls etc haha. its good!

Hey great video! Awesome creation. When you vent the booth out when its in use, do you get overspray on the outside of the garage? Also, are you able to fit a whole car in the booth to paint?
@bobw36773 жыл бұрын
I did paint the car body in the booth as well. I was cramped for space so I did the body first, then the panels. I put dollies under the wheels and was able to move the car from side to side and forward and backward so I would have room to spray. If I had a bigger garage, I would have made a bigger booth. As far as paint in the air coming out of the vents and getting on things, I had no issues. But, it is definitely something to consider when planning.

"don't make the mistake of thinking you're getting positive airflow when actually you're just sucking air out of the booth" It's not sucking air out of the booth. The fan's intake is creating negative pressure (a vacuum) in the garage _outside_ the booth. A sealed balloon in a vacuum chamber will inflate when no air is getting sucked out of the balloon. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3a4eaR6qaajiZI
@JustinKrux2 жыл бұрын
whats happening in your linked video is not the same thing as this though, if you pay close attention, sucking air out of the chamber around the balloon is what causes the balloon to puff, here hes sucking air out of the balloon (paint booth) itself, closing the door causes negative pressure though as the garage and paint booth are mostly sealed, and the size of the two chambers are very different with an opening between them not large enough to balance the pressure between the two, opening the door alleviates this because it unseals the garage, adding another intake or a larger intake (or a speed regulated fan to the intake and exhaust) to the paint booth would probably also help.

Where'd you get the filters for the 20" fans and what are they called?
@bobw36772 жыл бұрын
They will be next to the regular filters at Lowes or Home Depot. You can cut to fit. I don't know the official name for that kind of filter. Mesh filter?????

Hello how much was you blower , and heater as well. Great video thank you
@bobw36773 жыл бұрын
I dont remember exactly but the 5000 watt red heater is about $100 on amazon www.amazon.com/Infrared-Heater-DR-988-Garage-5600W/dp/B003XOZN7A/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=dr+heater&qid=1603814133&sr=8-12. The 10000 watt heater was about $250 and I dont remember where I bought it. Both heaters needed separate 240 volt lines 30 and 40 amp. The blower and filter were about $200 and bought from an indoor garden supplier. The blower was used.

Good video. Are you using explosion-proof lights and fan (which you should always use)? If so, where did you get the lights?
@bobw36774 жыл бұрын
I looked at many, many videos on DIY paint booths. Someone eventually will bring up the explosion proof lights and explosion proof fan motor issue. In none of the comments could I find an actual experience of an explosion happening. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, just that it seems the chances are very low. The number one way to mitigate the danger of an explosion is to ventilate. Since ventilation is the whole point of a DIY ventilated paint booth, I decided it was not worth buying expensive non explosive motors and lights. The lights are LED and were bought at Costco.
@rays90334 жыл бұрын
@@bobw3677 , thanks for the reply. I agree with your thoughts that an explosion seems unlikely. I stumbled upon that topic at 16:15 into this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYfCnqF9mr6rmbM . Another KZbin video researched this topic kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYjTcpqcndF8ebM and found (albeit on a smaller scale) the odds of explosion are very small, and if it happened often we would certainly hear about it. If all DIY'ers HAD to make every aspect of our painting explosion-proof, the cost would make it impossible to attempt. Anyway, great video quality and content Bob, I wish my paint space was as large as yours.
