Just a quick video showing how my spray booth works. Constructed using 6-mil clear plastic visqeen connected to 1/2-inch EMT using greenhouse snap clamps. The EMT is hung from my overhead door track. Self adhesive Velcro strips seal the corners of the spray booth and a pair of self adhesive zippers create the door. Bungee-ball tarp tie downs secure the walls when rolled up.
The other part of my spray booth is the filter fan. It’s just a wooden box built around four cheap box fans. Each fan has a cheap fiberglass furnace filter. The fans all plug into a standard power strip and the power strip plugs into a remote controlled outlet. As shown in the video, I simply sandwich the fan box beneath my garage door.

Really nice. I like this - great design for my yard shed paint booth. One thing I did different on my drop down garage booth, is two fans blowing into the booth through filters, then two filters (no fans) for the air to vent out the other side. That way the booth is positive pressure, and the only air coming in is clean air through filters. The positive pressure keeps any dust from getting sucked in through gaps or openings.

Hmmm, think you'd want to just fully seal proper, wide enough inlet to match your pulling cfm of exhaust, and simply add a filter on inlet, again assuming you were sealed proper but I suppose yours will work, just harder on the fan motors is all.
@bandvidguy
@bandvidguy 2 жыл бұрын
@@j.ballsdeep420 As long as the inlets and outlets are matched it's no different on the fan motors whether it's pushing the air in or blowing air out. I just did it that way so that if there were any leaks (because it's really hard to get a 100% perfect seal), then it's positive pressure outward not vacuum pressure inward pulling dust in
@j.ballsdeep420
@j.ballsdeep420 2 жыл бұрын
@@bandvidguy -- Oh I get why you did it, that doesn't escape me, thermodynamics and the mechanical difference of push/pull escapes my knowledge, though, and I just go with what HVAC engineers have explained to me as I glossed over but got the point that pull creates less wear on the motors: Should you need positive pressure, though, yeah... no real option there so do your thing. Regarding the point of sealing, though, that's not entirely accurate so long as your inlet matches or is greater than the volume being extracted as equal or greater from your specified inlet would supply the amount needed to exchange from this source alone and wouldn't be pulling from additional gaps you may have, and finally fully filling gaps is quite easy now days to make a nearly completely sealed space with the invention of positive pressure sealing a room if you're not familiar. Anyhow, wasn't trying to create arguments but rather just discussing the variable on motor impact.

This is the best paint booth concept I've found so far. Thanks for sharing. Gaberiel, do you think 4 mil would work as well as that 6 mil plastic? Edit: Never mind. After watching the video a few times, I think 4 mil plastic would deteriorate a lot faster than 6 mil.
@KJ_nyc
@KJ_nyc Жыл бұрын
I have used 4 mil for many projects. We wash it down after each work session, let it dry, then roll it the same way as in the video. 4 mil is very durable, but depending on the dust build-up, and the number of washings, it does deteriorate in time. When that happens, we build a new tent. However, we get many weeks use out of one tent, and I've been using 4 mil tents for decades.

Sorry for the late reply. I don't do a lot of KZbin stuff. Anyhow, the top and bottom of the plastic is connected to the EMT (conduit) using "Greenhouse Snap Clamps" a google search will bring up many styles... I, of course, went with the cheapest. From there, I just used bolts that fit inside the EMT through my garage door braces (the punched metal angle that hold the track) on the sides and through holes in the tracks themselves (beyond where the door rollers travel) to hold the end panel.

Yeah me too but could be possible to add one . Its not about the spray paint but also the smell and the negative pressure to be sure it is well ventilated. I did some yesterday in my garage without fans under the garage door and It wasnt great to breath there even with a small diy paint booth.
@dreamcatcherdb
@dreamcatcherdb Жыл бұрын
@@DrLoveQc The open ceiling is by design to provide air intake in a cross flow pattern. It is very efficient and very little dust/fumes escape. I wear a respirator in the booth regardless. But outside the booth I breath fine. I should also note that a ceiling could cause too much negative pressure within the booth and pull the walls in potentially enough to contact the painted object.

I typically paint objects either up on saw horses or I throw down some cardboard if I need to paint near the floor. I don't get any overspray on the floor when painting on sawhorses and minimal when painting on cardboard. Any I do get doesn't bother me much and I have found that I can always spray some solvent on the floor and scrub it quite easily. I don't like tarps or plastic on the floor because they tend to be trip hazards IMO.

@dreamcatcherdb
@dreamcatcherdb Жыл бұрын
The ceiling is open by design to allow for a diagonal crossflow of air. Whenever you blow air out, there needs to be air allowed in. If the ceiling was covered too, the walls would suck. Over the years, I have used this booth for spray painting, heavy grinding, welding and even sandblasting and I find that even without the ceiling I don't get any noticeable dust escaping into the rest of the garage. The fans make a huge difference too. Also I have recently added a pulley system (made for bicycles) to quickly/easily hoist my fans to the ceiling when not in use.
