It's great that you built something to help take care of yourself and in the process designed it to protect your son. Thank you sharing and being a great dad!

Good video. The engineering grade stability is a tribute to the proper balance of applied physics correctly applied with extremely economical componentry. Especially appreciate this man's close attention to a detail that provides an added measure of safety for his son. He strikes me as a very mindful and thoughtful builder and dad as well. Good Work!

My Compliments on your project! As a retired Farmer and journeyman carpenter I am impressed with the ingenuity of your "cable slide system". It just goes to show that $25.00 can do the very same job that a $2500.00 system can do. The only hang-up I might have is that there is no cover over it. BUT! A cheap harbor freight tarp could easily fix that. Then you can work out in the rain also. Good Job!

This is very cool. Very simple, yet ingenious. I've been racking my brain for a month how to build one. Out of all the videos I've seen, I like yours the best. How you combined simplicity/minimalism - especially in the space saving footprint - with structural strength is very impressive, and helpful. Thank you. Thomas.

@Christopher Pardon The trick for the perfect "slide" are linear bearings. About 5 Bucks a piece and you got a USD 1000 feeling and near to no noise in movement. Thanks for your video, and you are welcome ;)

Very cool man. Super clean looking for a wood build. I had to build a rack when all this covid madness started and everything sold out and it's definitely a bit tricky to get wooden gym equipment to look nice and professional. But you nailed it for sure. Throw some white lithium grease on those bars if your still using it. Stuff is amazing and will really quiet it down at it doesn't really rub off or evaporate at all.

Put small pieces of foam material inside the small pieces of pipe that slide up on the long pipes and this will prevent the metal on metal grinding noise.

This is an awesome setup! I'm watching this in mid-Covid and am trying to figure my DIY options. Seems like this could easily be adapted to one of the DIY power rack designs. The only things I can't quite figure out are a) What is holding those collars that pass over the vertical rods in place? I can't imagine just sandwiching them between the boards is strong enough to keep them in place so there must be more to it and b) What is holding the weight carriage arms in place?

Chris, this is simple, functional, and really brilliant. I am going to make a Smith Machine based on a similar pole sliding system like yours. Did the outer pipe warp when you connected it with the wood to secure it? Is it just sandwiched together? That is a concern I have if I do this. Thanks buddy and check out my creations. Kurt
@CANIaddict7 жыл бұрын
Kurt Heitman no, the pipe didnt warp. I actually don't really sandwich it really tightly...just firm enough to keep them from moving around.

question.. does the machine create mechanical advantage because of the pullys ie.. lets say you have 30lbs on the machine and you are doing barbell curls from the lower pully. does the barbell have 30lbs of force at the bar or because of the pullys does it have less than 30 lbs? i can rephrase if you don't quite follow me
@needlessthing7 жыл бұрын
pulleys by themselves do not create mechanical advantage. You would need a pully and block system for that. Where the length of the pull is grater then the movement of the load. example. 2 feet of pull equals 1 foot of load movement at 50% the effort. With normal pully set up....equal pull with equal load movement provides no mechanical advantage at all. All a pully by itself does is allow you to change direction of force.
