Super helpful video, and a $$$ saver. Thank you! That said, orange blossom, peppermint and rose water are used in beverages and cooking, particularly desserts. You can find them in Indian, Persian and Israeli markets for $2-4. Floral (hydrosols) or herb waters should be refrigerated after opening. Refrigerate (great in summer) the mixture of water and glycerin, and don't keep it longer than a month. You could risk bacteria blooms, and you really don't want that on your skin. Never use tap water. Mac fix plus has a preservative (last ingredient). You can find paraben free preservatives for water based DIYs online, as well as other floral waters(more expensive).

Sarah Munoz when you said refrigerate the water glycerin mixture is that only if your adding the rose water/ orange blossom or just the water and glycerin?

Jessica Bert When making DIYs with distilled water/floral waters and hydrophilic (water soluble) ingredients (i.e. glycerin) generally, they should include a preservative. If you don't have one on hand because you aren't a home skincare crafter, then refrigeration will slow down bacterial/microbial blooms. You don't want to put contaminated products on your skin anymore than you would want to ingest spoiled food. I wouldn't keep the product longer than a month in the fridge or more than 2 weeks out. It's like any water that is allowed to sit out. Bacteria can grow/multiply in it if you keep it too long without a preservative. If you refrigerated the bottle, it should be fine for a month or so. If you just keep it out, I wouldn't keep it longer than 2 weeks, or risk introducing bacteria onto your skin. Use distilled water or boiled water in your mixture. I didn't mean to freak anyone out, but this is a serious matter, one that DIYs don't always mention. All the skincare products you buy on the market have preservatives (sometimes multiple kinds), especially those with water and water soluble ingredients, for very good reasons. Mac fix-plus has 3. 😊

does orange blossom water make your skin more sensitive to the sunlight like all citruses do cause if it does, beat not to use that when you're out and about.

nope! Its just rosewater and orange blossom water I used. No Mac fix + leftover

When you use that, do you ever use a setting spray (like Urban Decay) too? I hate the powdery look, so I go through too much MAC Fix+, which is why I want to make it. But, I also like it when I have long days and my makeup stays on from the morning to night. I just don't know what order to apply them in and I have very dry skin, despite all of the creams, oils, etc., which have made a difference, but not enough.

Sarah Farris I do the fix+ first, then setting spray for the same reason. I have insanely dry skin during the winter....oily in the summer. When I started doing both the fix+ and setting spray, my face has finally stays about the same.

My skin routine is baking soda paste for exfoliation , rose water for a toner , and coconut oil for moisturizer. I love how this sit diy is on the natural side , I hardly ever use makeup other than mascara once in awhile so I would use this more as skin care than a makeup aide thanx ☺️

Kendra Messaoudi Baking soda is actually bad when used too much on the skin its too harsh. Coconut Oil is comedogenic so yeah you only got the toner right

cocnut oil does not make me break out at all i acually have very dry skin so cocnut oil , olive oil are fine for me and i never get blackheads i only use baking soda once per week to exfoliate

It doesn’t necessarily keep your making lasting longer. You can use it before an after. Helps products stick on as well as keep your face a bit more hydrated. Honestly have not tested out shelf life but making smaller batches 😊

All I have to make the mac fix plus is the same rose water, and Glycerin. Do I add water? I saw another tutorial where this girl added purified water, toner, and glycerin. I'm confused. How should I make it? I don't have the orange blossom water.

She said the orange blossom water was optional. She said you can use either rose or orange, and she just used both because she loves the scent. Some people do add distilled or purified water, but I'm guessing on hers the rose water and orange blossom water is the water.

linda14149 You can definitely add distilled water. Most dyi's for this product call for about two parts distilled water plus one part fruit and or flower toner (orange blossom, rose, camomile etc.), and between 5-20 drops glycerin depending on how dewy you prefer it. This is the first dyi I have seen that doesn't call for water actually.
