DIY Refreshing Makeup Setting Rosewater Spray | Tutorial

One of my first beauty purchases as a teenager was Mario Badescu's Facial Spray. My mom drove me to a beauty boutique two towns over so I could use my allowance money to buy it - all because Hilary Duff raved about its skin-saving benefits. Her skin was (and is!) amazing, so I knew it had to be worth it. My friends went and purchased it because of me - we were like a rosewater gang of sorts. It made my skin glow, and for someone with perpetually dry skin, this is somewhat of a miracle product. Plus, it helped coiff unruly baby hairs. I carried that giant spray bottle to school in my backpack, and now keep the travel size handy in my purse - a loyal fan over 10 years later.
This spray is full of aloe and herbs, but the main ingredient is rosewater. It's anti-inflammatory and calming, so it's a real treat when you're traveling or need to refresh your makeup. So the real question is why wouldn't you make your own at home? The recipe is simple, has the best scent, and makes a great gift to boot.

If you add Vitamin E oil it would be a refreshing spray because rose petals benefit a lot. If you add glycerine it helps preserve it. 🙂

As a florist for ten years, a lot of these flowers are grown for decorative purposes and are not food safe or skin safe due to pesticides. I recommend buying food grade rose petals for tea and using that.

But I live in Malaysia (the equator) which is hot n humid climate (23-37degree celcius)..if I want to find fresh roses than I need to go cameron highland (the most cold place in my country) that is quite far away from my home..i want to ask u,is it ok if i'm just using fresh aloe vera gel instead of the bottled one?here I can easily find the aloe vera plant almost everywhere even at my home.

to make distelled water is simply boil a water for 30 minutes to elimnate bacteria

Distilled watter uses the process of boiling and accumulating the condensation. just what she did with the rose water... Sho she basically distilled some distilled water. Is the one to have less bacteria from all waters.

Considering the price for a dozen roses, it might be cheaper or more convenient to just buy it. But convenient for left over DIY valentines roses before they dry up ?? At least you'd know what's be going into your spray and essentially into your face

Actually.... Condensing will only give you the purest distilled water, but not purest rose water.... There's rose water in the little bowl because when the rose water is boiling, the water level rises so rose water went into the bowl as I can see in the video..... just wanted to point it out :)

I know it appears that way, but it was just the way the bowl was sitting for that particular shot. It was hard to shoot this with a boiling pot of water! I did sit for the alotted time and make sure that it simmered on low heat, which created the condensation, but didn't create those big bubbles, so it wouldn't overflow. Hope that clarifies!

Vic k I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing. You don't use tap water because it usually contains harmful bacteria yes? So I was trying yo say that you can fill up a pot of your tap water from your sink, and boil it because it's going to kill the bacteria. That's why in the wild, if you need water you usually get your source from idk maybe a lake, then you boil it to kill off all of the bacteria. After you boil the water (I forget for how long) you're left with distilled water aren't you?

Its better to use roses you've grown yourself so you know exactly what have come in contact with the flowers. Florists use many chemicals to make them look flawless, and you don't want them on your face!

Yeah, I'm also a little concerned with the wisdom of using store bought roses, especially for a project like this. You have no idea if they've been treated with pesticides or preservatives which you could then be transferring to your face. Of course with roses in particular you also have the issue of whether they've been ethically sourced but that's another matter.
