OMG, this video was so helpful! I am new on my wig journey and it's amazing the things you can do to a wig to make them more natural looking. I recently bought a mid-length wavy style. It's a dark brown, (a little too dark for me), and it has these beautiful caramel highlights, (better looking than anything I have gotten done in a salon), and I love it! But is has a center part that I am not fond of and I have never parted my hair this way. I thought I was going to have to live with it, but it's nice to see this tip so I can make it work for me! I have already had to "Dr" it a bit by thinning it out and it's starting to look better. Now I have to get used to wearing it....

Love it. Thanks because this bang is iritating me and I prefer a side part I bought a $20 wig so I want to make it work. The other wig I bought I couldn't exchange or return it so I wasn't gonna keep spending money on wigs Going through the last of chemo so this really helped me

thank you so much for this! i've got a beautiful auburn wig that's perfect for what i need it for, except the part is in the center and i need it to be on the right. when i wore it for an event last year as a specific character, i had to wear it sideways the whole weekend so the part was in the right place. XD now once i find my misplaced iron i can fix it!

I'm still having difficulty making the part look natural bit maybe with practice it will look better. Also it's too thick so I'll ask my hairdresser to use some thinning shears on it.
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 7 жыл бұрын
If the wig is too thick on the top, there isn't likely much you can do. Taking thinning shears to the top will result in tiny little hairs that will stick up all over the top. If you mean too thick on the length that's sometimes safe. Wefted wigs do not cut like normal hair - so if your stylist isn't versed in cutting wigs, you may end up with cut lines in your fiber. Some wigs don't create realistic partlines so it may not be your technique, and may just be the wigs construction. If its frizzy and wefted across the top, parting over that will be difficult as it relies on volume to make it look most natural. Just keep working it and something will work out. :)

I got my first synthetic wig recently, and it's unclear whether it has a flexible parting or not (it says so on one of the images but not in the description). I haven't messed around with it too much and I'm not too sure what to do with long hair (I've had a pixie cut for 7 years now and never really experienced long hair) so I'm going to try to see if it is flexible, but if not, I'll definitely use this method

Love that! Wondering how i can do that to blend new bangs on a parted wig? I dont want to iron the forehead lol
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 4 жыл бұрын
If the bangs are new, then don't worry - you might need to iron down onto the forehead slightly at the top bend. You won't be doing this on a real person, only on something that will help hold the shape. You need to pull the bangs forward over the face if you want them to go in that direction, then steam like you would to move the center part. :)
@teresarae669

So I actually have the opposite partline lol. I have a cosplay wig that has a side part but I need it to have a middle part for my character. Will this method work for creating a middle part too? Also, will this need to be done every time the wig is washed? I wash my wigs occassionally so they don't get trashed, so I'd like to know if washing the wig resets the partline. Thanks in advance!!💜
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 5 жыл бұрын
You can use the same method! Synthetics take their shape during the cooling process. As long as you are not washing with scorching hot water, your new part line will be your wig's new "natural" parting.

How do you avoid the new parting from letting hair hang in your face too much? Since the hair is now more on one side than the other by a bit
@doctoredlocks

When you shape it with the heat, just make sure the hair is angled toward the back, not toward the front and it will hang in that direction when it cools. :)

It will absolutely work. Water is a pretty low temp heat as far as heat standards go. It is safe as long as it is not a dry heat.

Hye there beautiful. Is it also possible if I use a fabric/clothes steamer to achieve the same result? Thank you gorgeous 😘.
@doctoredlocks

Yes, it is likely possible and could be safer. Some household steamers are not powerful enough to create the part while others are. If your steamer doesn't seem to work, you can always try it like the video. :)

can i do this with a flat iron or a hair dryer? i dont have a clothes iron...
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 3 жыл бұрын
A hair dryer would not get hot enough to give you steam. You could try with a flat iron, but it won't give you the same control since you are just wanting to hit the top. An iron or a steamer will work best. You can usually pick up an iron pretty inexpensive. Thrift stores often have them.

Does this work on wavy wigs, or will it straighten the roots?
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 3 жыл бұрын
It gets a bit trickier with curl patterns, a directional steamer will give you more control and reduce the risk of losing that patter.

Removing bangs is going to be difficult with most wig constructions. Trimming is very doable, but you will need to take the construction into consideration. Check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3yYoHWCibSWY5I

How about if you want to make it free parting. My natural hair is free-part, that is how I want to wear my wig too. Please make a video of that too.
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 4 жыл бұрын
Free parts are harder because they really depend on how the top of the wig is constructed. The best thing if you need a free part is to style the roots straight up on the centimeter closest to the roots. This might add a bit of volume, but it would allow the strands to fall in any direction.

How do you hide the track ?
@doctoredlocks
@doctoredlocks 3 жыл бұрын
That all depends on how your wig is built. If your tracks are tight to the part area, you may not be able to change it much without it being exposed. Typically lace wigs and mono top wigs have enough area to move the part or change the shape. This tutorial is helpful in getting the new part to stay - but you'll have to decide what placement and shape looks good. :)
