I have a doubt, why do we need 2 pieces of wood, we can do it in a single thick piece of wood right? This solution is super simple, awesome and thanks
@honuhobbies8309
@honuhobbies8309 9 ай бұрын
let me see if this clarifies or if I answer correctly. I use one piece of wood to make the 45 degree angle cut. and another to give it more structural integrity. But I guess you're right! maybe just need one piece. Let me think a little more. thank you!

@@honuhobbies8309 but the only problem is the hole saw will not be able to cut a hole in a wood piece which is taller than itself. Your method seems perfect for people using hole saw. If we have a spade drill bit then we can use a single block of wood, spade bit will go through longer wood.

Thanks. I am a beginner so am always wondering if a common sense solution that I thought of is actually is the best one. Reasuring to see what others do.

So I notice that the initial holes you drilled using your template or guide did not go all the way through your work piece. Did you finish drilling those free hand after removing the guide you made?

Hi! Because I was using 2x4 for this project the drill did not go all the way through...(I should have used 1x 4s). In any case, the drill at least made an outline on the opposite end to make a clean cut

Thanks for the video. I am wondering why it is necessary to use 2 pieces of wood rather than just one angled piece?
@honuhobbies8309
@honuhobbies8309 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, it really depends how big of a hole you are drilling. Because I had a hole that was 2"inches, the second piece gives more structural support so that the drill is going in at the correct angle. A smaller hole would have more of the 2x4 cut out to be stable. I hope this makes sense? If not I can try to be more clear =)

Is the side frame made out of a full sized 1" x 4"?. The Pottery Barn one has wood going across the holes in the back, presumably to help hold the bottles in. Looks like you didn't do that, but you didn't use yours for bottles. Would there be an issue if you did? TIA. Mark

wow I'm so sorry I haven't read through all these comments in almost a year. I'm terrible. but yes the side was a 1 x 4. Also you are right I didn't use it for bottles. I would just use 1x3 or 1x2 in the back if I were to put bottles. no problem there!
