DIY How To Install Mini Split with Sharp 90 Degree Bends In Copper Lines (No Soldering)

Here's how to install a MiniSplit unit when you need to make sharp turns with the copper lines, without soldering.
I used RectorSeal Pro Fit 90 degree fittings (push-in, solderless).
They have a dual, internal o-ring seal.
I have purchased them from both Supply House and ebay.

I will say that those fittings are awesome. I am an HVAC contractor and use them myself in situations where brazing is unrealistic or dangerous. I have used about 20 of them so far and none have leaked yet. I will also say though that you 100% could have made that bend in the copper and you could have done it with your bare hands. 1/4" and 3/8" flexible copper is extremely easy to work with

What's on the other side that prevents you from drilling a hole? Doesn't look like the best install with those pipes going around the corner line that.

The main bathroom toilet is directly behind the brick wall.

This is not ideal, that short 90 adds about 14 " of line set, and can cause extra friction to the line set and reduce it's velocity. In refrigeration long 90's are suppose to be used.

inches or feet? you mean equivalent feet, right?

@seanadams2339 feet, hard 90's are only used in water applications. I am shocked that is a refrigeration part. Even a long 90 adds, but is far superior to a short.

The 90 degree fittings added NO equivalent length to the line set. It allowed this install to SHORTEN the lines at the fittings (instead of having extra copper coiled up at the outside unit). I removed about 3-4 feet from both lines.

@@bobbilly351 no you don't understand. A an elbow introduces frictional loss, a resistance to the movement of fluid, which is equivalent to a certain amount of feet of pipe. You have to add that amount to the length of actual pipe that you have to get the effective length, and make sure you are still within the headroom needed for desired performance. There are tables you can look up this up. It's the same for water pipe. It is always better to make a smooth bend instead of a hard 90. refrigerant actually flows at quite a high velocity so this matters.
