Super cute and easy ! Thanks a lot, I love my new top ! I made it a bit longer, as I'm not a crop top fan, also had to french seam everything to make it look good with my basic sewing machine. 4,5 hours from drafting pattern to wear it, used thrifted dress I had for so long for fabric and bikini top string (the one around chest) for the elastic part so not a penny spent ! Love that feeling ;)

Hi... Thanks for tut... MI have a larger body frame then yours, so how did you come up with the measurements? The blouse is beautiful by the way
@RayleneMichelleStudio8 жыл бұрын
Hey Hun, thanks so much for your kind comment :) And to answer your question... Fortunately, because the top is so loose fitting and ruffly (haha, don't know if that's even a word), you can be very generous with the inches on the width and even the height (it's up to you), the elastic around your shoulders will be the only thing that really needs to fit you snugly. This is how I came up with my measurements (hopefully it will give you an idea of how to do it according to your measurements): I took my shoulder circumference measurement, divided it by 2 for the front piece and added about 8" on either side for some lee way. Feel free to extend this to your preference and include seam allowances. The height I chose for the ruffle is about 8" - feel free to adjust this to any height you prefer. Remember it has to include seam/hem allowances....
@RayleneMichelleStudio8 жыл бұрын
... Continued: Then, for the bodice pieces took my bust circumference measurement, divided it by 2 for the one bodice piece and added about 3" on either side for some lee way. Do feel free to extend this to your preference and include seam allowances. To figure out the bottom of the bodice measurement as it extends slightly outwards, I took my waist circumference measurement and simply doubled it, and then I divided it by 2 to determine the width of the piece, then I connected my final bust width measurement including the 3" (my preferred width extension) on either side down toward it. To calculate the height of my bodice piece, I measured from where my elastic is eventually going to sit around my shoulders down to my waist, and added about 2" for some allowance. You can make this top as long as you want! It's up to you :) ......
@RayleneMichelleStudio8 жыл бұрын
...continued.: To calculate the space required for my armholes, I simply traced the armhole of a top I own. Not the whole armhole, of course, because the top portion isn't required since it's an off-the-shoulder top. I really hope this helps! I had to separate it into 3 comments because of the character limits. Good luck with your project, and do let me know how it turned out - I'd love to see your creation! xx

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - been following your instructions to the letter, but for some reason, the piece on top flares out a lot - is it the fabric that I've chosen?
@RayleneMichelleStudio8 жыл бұрын
Tina Tran Hi Tina, it could most likely either be a fabric that doesn't have good drape, or one that's too thick and the gathers is kind of forcing it outwards. Would you mind DM'ing me a photo on Instagram @RayleneHarvey of what it looks like? Then I can see exactly what you're referring to and be able to give you a better answer :) xx
@Jayariee7 жыл бұрын
Tina Tran you could just need to take it in an from the sides, find out how many inches you'd want to come off the sides . If the top if fine then draw a diagonal line to that point

Hi Mariana, I overlocked/serged all the edges, then I folded it over about a half inch, and sewed on the right side of the fabric with a twin needle. Then I gave it a good press. Hope this helps 😊 xx

The twin needle sewing was with a standard sewing machine, of course :)

How many cm is the elastic?
@RayleneMichelleStudio7 жыл бұрын
marina mohedano Hey Marina, if you're referring to the length, measure it around your shoulders so that it fits snugly. You can even add a tiny bit extra for overlap. This is the part of the DIY that is adjustable to your fit. Hope this helps! xx

@RayleneMichelleStudio8 жыл бұрын
Hi J, is easier to make something smaller, so all might not be lost :) The measurements I have stipulated are for a size Medium, but you could easily add or subtract inches depending on your own measurements. There is a comment on my blog post where I explained to a lady how to make it bigger, the same instructions can be followed to make it smaller. Good luck :) xx

I like the way you edit the video it makes it much easier to follow along and sew the pattern. I hate videos that last so long where you have to watch the person sew each and every panel. It's so long and boring. You did a great job on this shirt. I want to do the reverse longer ruffle and shorter crop top.
