I don't think there's any way I can check this on a Vektra kettle because it is just one of those electronic buttons you depress once, it doesn't stay down. I guess the only thing I can check is the base for continuity and the fuse to rule them out, but I suspect it is the button/electronics that has stopped working. I'll have to see if my kettle is still in warranty but knowing my usual luck it will probably be just outside the warranty period. It has been a great kettle for me up until now and saved me loads of money on electricity. I don't like the fact that a modern kettle only lasts 20 months before failing and we're expected to buy a new one, especially if it's not a cheap kettle but a slightly more expensive one. Maybe I'm just old fashioned though and expect things to last.

When buying white goods, I always avoid anything electronic if possible. I prefer machines with mechanical or electrical switches which I have a chance of repairing/replacing. Same goes for bigger items - the more fully-featured a product is, the more there is to go wrong. Keeping it simple (and cheap!) has been my lifestyle! :) Thanks for watching #HowToBloke 👍
