NIce work. I think that a 1x8 head casing cut to size, would have been a better choice so that it lined up with the other casing next to it.

I thought so too, I'm a carpenter and like to start with the top piece of trim first, I think its then easier to line up the sides

This was going to be my comment. Or asking why he didn't care about getting them the same height. Maybe us guys notice it way more than most people. IDK. Just the end of the hallway door was short, right? The adjacent one and the pocket were both a little higher.

My grandfather made everything for his home old school style. The interior doors all rolled back into a recess then he built a simple cord over a pulley system with a perfectly weighted piece of turned brass inside the opposite recess. The doors all work perfectly for over 45 years. Slow, silent and smooth. Gotta love perfect work.

@@TheHandyman1 A little everything. He presents well, smart, natural problem solver, polite soft spoken, with real integrity, and he gets referrals from old lady’s with money. A few neighborhood blocks from McGregor. Second grandkid one the way, so he must feel secure in the path! Thank you for the great content! Yours was the first channel I pointed him to when he needed a career change. I followed you because I did some property management as an agent side gig and got my son in on the maintenance side at the Office. When he was 23, we threw his college money ($12k) into a 1938 former termite infested crackhouse and 5 years later - crushing it - owns a fruit tree nursery homestead, married, 2 sons! Blessed! The simplified advice I gave my son and son-in-law is, that no one knows how to fix anything. In Florida, people have money! A Good Handyman’s dream!

Great and beautiful work. Good job - I enjoyed watching it all. A word of caution/worry for your safety. Very few first seconds you made a cut on your tablesaw with the miter gauge - and it looked like you used the fence for distance? if so - you risk the piece to bind and kick back. For your own sake - never use the miter gauge together with the fence - fingers x-ed 🙂

@jeffp6014 Жыл бұрын
Your install is a work of art. I wondered if theres something more aesthetic instead of plastic guides at the bottom. At first I thought they should have been extending inside of the slot instead of sticking out in traffic but your close up looks like it’s is the design.
@navarrodragon25 Жыл бұрын
they have a guide you could install that is recessed just beyond the edge of the door... it is a single blade that runs inside a notch in the bottom of the door. it gets screwed to the floor in the wall cavity and if not installed prior to drywall it would be tricky to do but could still be done with 90 degree drill adapters and extensions and such. the guide is called is called a T floor guide and doesn't mar up the bottom of the door that you can see.

I made it to the end! Looks sharp - I love the natural wood grain! What size is your finish nailer? I've seen so much conflicting information on what is better, a 15-guage or 16-guage nailer for door installation and finish trim. I went with 16-guage only because it seemed more common than 15 but that doesn't mean I was right.
@huejanus5505 Жыл бұрын
There isn’t a right or wrong. A 15 gauge is slightly stronger and leaves a slightly larger hole. I opted for 15 gauge because i prefer angled nailers for awkward spots. Some people say 15 gauge is too big for finish work, but i’ve pulled out some real harpoons on older finished work on some renos that looked fine installed.
