It's always interesting to see how you deal with out of square and plumb as well as different floor levels in older homes. It's easy if everything is perfect. The sign of a true craftsman is someone who can deal with all the weirdness and make it look perfect.

Trim carpentry. Thanks for your comments about the DeWalt neller, it does drive the nails, through oak and you're right, you are invested in the battery platform. Ok I also learned that it's hard to predict if or which way a nail is going to dive out, however if you align your nail's chisel tip along the grain (turn your nail gun parallel to the grain) AND drive/shoot the nail so it is biased into the jamb, there is less chance of an eruption. And always carry some bull daggers (diagonal cutting pliers, if ykyk) with your neller.

12:08 a tip to help prevent those nail blowouts is to always shoot the nails in with the gun perpendicular to the piece. Thats because of the way the ends of those brad nails are cut. If you look closely at them. They almost always shoot off to the right or left of the gun when holding it normal. PS- 10:13 get the dishes done??? 🤔😆

Anybody who has done finish carpentry professionally has had blowouts like that many times. We all have screamed like same word as you. If you bend the nail back and forth until it breaks, it will always break off below the surface of the wood. No need to use a nail set.

I have a lot of Dewalt tools and a bunch of batteries. I bought the Ryobi 18ga and 23ga nailers, and I bought an adapter on Amazon to use the Dewalt batteries to power them. It works great. I probably wouldn't use one of those adapters for something like an angle grinder, but for tools that use quick zips of energy I think there is probably minimal possibility of damaging the battery if you watch the battery charge level.

Great show Handy, in our custom cabinet shop whenever we have a blowout nail, it’s bent back and forth. It will break off flush with the wood. Less to punch and fill that way. HandyOn!

Those 18 gauge nails have a chisel head. I think they always curve out the same way. So you can predict which way they might curve and hold the nailer accordingly. So it curves into wood instead of poking through it.

Those chisel point nails will almost always curve out to the left or right. I.e. perpendicular to the direction of the magazine. You can minimize the chances of them deflecting back through the surface by being mindful of directions they are likely to curve.

If you have a good sold wall you can use nails. This area was already cracked and close to the edge. That's why I glued instead of nails.

Come on Handy! I'm not the safety police but wear some eye protection with nail guns. If that nail decided to keep zipping through on its u-turn, that looked like it was headed right for your eyeball. I've had nails ricochet at my face before, though more often it's bits of wood splintering off from bad shots. The framing nailers are worse, since those have enough force to chip bits of the nail off occasionally, and they also shoot the little plastic bits from the nail strip pretty hard sometimes. An eye patch might get you some more subs, but I'll bet it would suck.
