Piston was installed backwards also you don't need that ratchet strap to get the cylinder to retract. After reconnecting the hydraulic lines all you need to do is start the machine. The cylinder will retract on it's own to match the cylinder on the other side. You my have to work the pedal slightly to finish aligning the pin. I was the Hydraulics tech for GTE.

for pulling seals on, energizers, ptfe seals etc. use a zip tie turned inside out {smooth side to seal} use it as a handle to stretch the seal and walk it down on without rolling it. just rebuilt the swivel on my excavator and damn the zip tie trick saved my bacon.

You're using those channel locks backwards. That's a good way to tear shit up from them slipping.

you dont n3ed to put them in hot water lol....ive been doing seals and cylinder repair for 20 years...stretch the teflon seal on then use electrical tape and clamp it....they make a tool that compresses teflon piston seals that sells for about 150 bucks...i have 2 but for most weekend warriors the tape and clamp is the way to go...just takes longer

When installing your lower piston, using a hose clamp tightened against the piston will hold the oring from being torn, then you can tap the piston in and hose clamp will just come free on rod for removal, much like piston ring compressors used to install engine pistons. Good video. Thanks

Definitely worth doing it yourself I've sent them out to be done. A week to 10 days later u get it back in my area it's around $130--$500 for bobcat cylinders. I just did it for the first time and if I can do it most people are able to.

Never hurts to try, it's already messed up. My turbo recently went out on my 7.3 Powerstroke the repair cost was estimated at over $2000. It was already broken so I bought the stuff and fixed it over 2 days. It's been 5000 miles and it's still whistle'n along. And I kept a ton of cash in my pocket. Even used my backwards channel locks 🤣

Thanks for the video. I am rebuilding the two front tilt cylinders on the loader bucket of my Case 580C Backhoe. I simply could not get the Cup Rod Seal installed inside the Gland Nut. Your zip tie trick worked great!!! Thanks

I just did this and I believe there is a lip on the inner seal. I faced this lip the opposite direction as the outer seal lip that is visible once everything is together. Is this correct? I watched a few vids already doing this and wonder why no one lubes the parts before shoving them into cylinders? Dry o-rings, dry seals can twist or tear when installing. LUBE THEM!!! I also reused the OEM nut because its better than the junk included in the kits. The OEM nut locks on its own so no future problem like you had with the nut coming off inside the tube.

It should be, I took all the pieces from the older one and just copied how I found them. That being said the machine had unknown hours so who knows how many times it has been rebuilt? The ends had signs that it had been opened before. I agree about dry seals.

looks like you have a 1 1/4" rod 2" bore...pretty typical of bobcat aluminum gland steel barrell....parts would be and st-125 wiper the rod seal they used in the kit is a twin lip rtu18-1.25-31 224 o-ring and back up and a ps1400-32 teflon piston seal...kit should have been no more then 20 bucks....these are a piece of cake as long as the aluminum gland doesnt swell

At 7:03, you probably realize that those O-rings go on better if you don’t stretch them around multiple shoulders of those caps instead working them from the narrow to the outer directly. One thing about cutting the end of that rod off where the threads were damaged, I would’ve taken a small jewelers file and cleaned up the thread along the note to go on which would’ve left me the thread at the end. A mechanical Fasner is generally thought to be secure when the length of threads projecting from the nut Nut are equal to the diameter of the threads. I was kind of thinking you would show how you expanded the blue outer seal to go over the end of the piston but maybe you figured it out as one of the other commenters had by expanding it with something of a similar diameter to just inside that seal and you exchange positions as you slide it on.

I absolutely agree there are better ways to rebuild the cylinder and OEM should always be an option. So far this repair is going strong and I'm out under $20 and an hour of time.
