Drew I have to say I was skeptical about the bookcases but they came out absolutely stunning! I think instead of the rosettes I would’ve done a brass rail to match the lamps and then I would’ve filled that area with plants! But I’m super happy that you’re in love with it 😍😍

I know the piece over the door was meant to link the two together, but sad that the natural light won’t be able to move up to the vaulted ceilings. Kind of makes it feel gloomy up there, and the doors feel trapped and caged off. But love that Drew finds exactly what he loves and goes with it! Not for everyone, but so creative and fun!

@@deniseenglish5306 I was thinking the same thing. I personally would not have not used the rosette bullseye but turned them around as to try to accomplish more of a dental molding look if I was trying to achieve this look. I love you Drew and the most important thing is you love it as it's your space and whatever makes your heart sing is the right decision for you!

I love what your doing with this house. your improving and restoring its beauty when some other designer would have gone with modern trends, blown out the walls for that open floor plan everyone has to have, put up subway tile and slapped white paint on everything. what your doing is classic and will not be out dated in 5-7 years when the next trend comes along, keep doing your own thing.

I've noticed that in most cases, a full wall of built-ins in the wall colour look less busy than a couple units or mid-height drawer piece. As long as you take care to leave some shelves almost empty with only decor it's going to appear as less heavy. It also appears to be taking less space in the room because you still have a straight wall.

The bookcases look absolutely great but I’m not a fan of the upper trim. I find it fights with the vault and distracts from the entire piece. It’s just my personal preference though.

Drew, love the bookcases. Have you thought about adding small LED lights that shine up to the ceiling running behind the rosettes? Place them midway the depth of the shelves, and maybe even see if you can change the color of the lights to go with whatever mood you want to give. I’m not meaning a strip of lights but a row of 2-3” round lights. It would highlight those beams that are on your wall. I think that would be dramatic! And I know you like drama 😂

I just got my step-dad to sit with me and watch this vid. My brother will be buying his first house this year and is going to want built in bookshelves, my step-dad is going to build them. Knowing my step-dad he would have done it the hard way and bought very expensive wood and made them from scratch - and driven us all crazy in the drawn out process. He's a very rigid thinker and it's not easy to suggest new ideas to him. He was grinning the whole vid and thought what you did was brilliant. He started looking around my lounge for where he might be able to add some bookshelves (I've got NO room) and I gently suggested to him he might want to go this route when it comes to building my brother's shelves. I think you've just saved my brother a tonne of money and the rest of us a tonne of headaches.

This made me cry!!! It's soooo beautiful! I've always dreamed of having a library, I got some amazing ideas from watching your vid. I bought a little house this past summer and I knew it needed a lot of work, but the inspector did tell some pretty big lies. It's waaayyyy worse than what I signed up for. 2 contractors declined the project, not that I could afford them anyway. My money is super limited so I'm doing all of the work by myself with ZERO experience. But, I've been watching home remodel and DIY videos since I was a child, obsessively. So, I decided to be positive and I figure, if anyone was made for this kind of surprise, it was me. I'll get it done eventually and I'll be so happy to have a warm, beautiful home for my children. Fun news! I bought some power tools from an auction last week and I'm looking forward to going home this weekend and getting some projects moving. Send me some creative vibes, warm home wishes and happy energy!!! ❤

That exposed shelf was seriously stressing me out 😂. I didn’t see any comments about it and I was so tempted to beg you to fix it but something told me there was a reason it was still like that so I refrained. There was NO WAY you would have missed a detail like that. None the less, I literally sighed with relief when you covered it 😆 I think you were spot on about the rosettes as the trim to finish the shelves off without taking away from the ceiling beam details. It does look like the two are in harmony now. With them all trimmed and painted, the new step, the doors …. It gives the room the gravitas the beams were begging for it to have. Love it, Drew. Really gorgeous. The cushions for the chairs turned out so well, too. They look so comfy. Excited to see it all styled ! I think a lot of people who are on the fence will be converted once they see it completed.

Oh Drew holy cow Drew. Seriously a bow down to you. Your work is phenomenal. I love everything you’ve done and how you brought light into the room. The details to the bookcases make it from an ordinary functional to statement a Gorgeous statement. Oh, and putting the rosettes along the very top spaced out Makes a little bit like a castle with the mid evil beans in light fixtures. I hope I’m explaining this the way I mean for it to come out. Just plain or just a piece of molding just would not have carried the style of the ceiling and the beams and everything up there down into the walls the bookcases the incredible gorgeous, unique vintage French doors. It just wouldn’t have accented them to this level. And what you did at the bottom of those French doors. Holy moly they’re not just functional in those beautiful doors there. Oh no, it’s a piece of art just from the floor to the bottom of those doors. I love it love it love it every little tiny detail not just the big ones are mine blowing. Can’t wait to see what you do next. I am enjoying this so much Drew thank you thank you thank you. Oh, and the Monterey chairs are so uniquely perfect. They bring like the structure and strength of that mid evil/Art Deco era altogether. The detail on the sides I feel completely in love with so something I would love to get my hands on. There’s so unique and rare and one-of-a-kind really. So like each piece is a little different. And the resources you have discovered to buy really unique pieces for your home like that antique stone sink, I think, from like turkey, amazing. This home is truly becoming more and more of a work of art. Thanks for taking us along to these unique shops, which I would never get to explore and enjoy. If not for you. I am so very much living vicariously through you. I’m a 60-year-old Mama/Nana in the Pacific Northwest and I pretty much spent my life changing diapers and flipping tortillas lol. But I learned so much from you that I save up and get little pieces here and there and you and MacCenna have really influenced me in ways I never imagined I’d be influenced into a totally different direction. My style is definitely Mexican BoHo. But I’ve introduced neutrals like creamy off whites which I never really saw is my style and now I’m in love with. I also love, your choice of fabrics texture, even more than color that you chose for your chairs. Actually, I love all the things you’ve had reupholstered or done yourself. But chenille not like the chenille and bedspreads, but the chenille like in throw blankets and like you did on your chairs, I am passionate about. Thank you so much for taking me a long your journey. It’s turning out to be quite the ride.

Great transformation on the bookcases, Drew, and I love that you painted them the wall color. I have to agree with some of the other posters, the rosettes are off and not in keeping with the classic look you always strive for. I agree with other comments about not really diggin' the rosettes on top of the bookshelves. I think a strip of the same egg and dart moulding you used around the doors would look great and would visually tie the doors to the shelving units. I was also hoping you'd paint the shelves dark brown to match the existing trim because I think this would tie the built ins to the rest of the room and make them look like they're original to the home.

Everything looks great Drew! The built-ins turned out beautifully! Love the color of them and the walls. The chairs are beautiful! I LOVE that color fabric, and can't wait to see what's next. Overall, everything looks fantastic!!❤ You all work so hard, but the results are so worth it!❤

Absolutely beautiful! You know, the top trim, the rosettes, which I agree were a great, inspirational design solution, give a medieval castle vibe, which totally works.

The rosettes look more Roman than anything. I thought you said you were going to try to keep it spanish design?

I trusted your process from the start Drew, you've proven time and again that you know what's going to look amazing. At the end of the day, it is your home, and while others as viewers may prefer different bits and pieces, it's your home! Of course, it is to your taste and liking, which, by the way, I happen to love. Just stunning! The bookshelves showcase those gorgeous doors, and the trim feature across the top of the bookshelves fits so well with the overall style of your home. Well done 🧡🤎🩶 from Australia.

Love the trim at the top! So glad you painted the shelves the same color as the walls. Oh and the fabric you used for the chair upholstery? OMG! Just love it! ❤

Love the bookcases except for the trim at the top, I feel it detracts from the chunky dark lines of vault and furniture and the criss cross of the doors. However, I don't live there, you do , and if you love them that's all that matters. So enjoy watching the transformation of your home.

Drew- the bookcases are gorgeous - love the lights. The rosettes just seem out of place and just deliberately placed. I agree with other comments molding should have been used as well. My eyes go directly to the rosettes and not the beautiful shelves created.

Love the bookcases. Not sure about the rossette trim on top.I think I would back them with wood to give them the depth without the Cheap itsy bitsy look. They look like they don't belong there.

hmm it’s nice but i still don’t like the doors being so enclosed by the shelves. just feels cramped to me, but the shelves definitely look good on their own, just feel like it cramps it up next to the doors and the windows. Wish it could have been on another wall

I was one of those who didn't really connect with the idea of adding Ikea bookcases in such a lovely Spanish style house. I thought maybe a vintage cabinet would better. But the work you did on it, in the end, they look absolutely beautiful. Love love love it ❤️😍 And the little step in front of the door, OMG, Love.!!
