DIY IKEA LACK SHELF HACK UNDER $25

Hey Bargain Family! Thanks for joining me for my very first non Dollar Tree related DIY. I've been getting many request to try recreating an IKEA item for an inexpensive price. Today, I'm trying my hand at making the Lack Shelf. These gorgeous looking shelves are popular when it comes to vanity displays. It cost me $12 to make one shelf. That price is for the board and paint. Everything else I had on hand. If you have a drill on hand but need everything else it will cost you $14.94. If you don't own a drill and buy everything I suggested it will cost you $23.93. It all just depends on what you've got on hand already or what you prefer to buy. Either way, you can definitely make your own shelf for a much less price than buying the shelf from ikea.
Measurements for my shelf:
Backboard 3ft Tall
4 Shelves at 6in Long
Space between the bottom shelf and third shelf is 10in.
First shelf is placed 7.5in below the top of the board.
Space between the first and second is 7.5in.
Space between the second and third shelf is 7.5in.
I didn't mess with the thickness or width of the pine board at all. I left it the way I bought it. If you use my exact measurements, you'll have 11.5in of extra wood. You could use that extra wood to give the shelf more height or to create 5 shelves instead of four.

Thank you for this! The white IKEA Lack shelf has been out of stock for months! Making your own is so much cheaper and is a better shelf!

when I make my shelves I use 1/2 quarter round trim to support my shelves. I also use glue on all my pieces before I put them together it makes a much stronger bond. Any glue will do even plain ol Elmer's glue . Love your projects. I don't think people realize How easy it is to build shelves and how much stronger they are because they're made out of real wood and they're also More cost effective because the wood is so inexpensive

I asked my boyfriend to make me these after watching your video and they turned out great! He painted them black to match my Ikea vanity/desk and placed them just how you had yours. I made one today and it came out so cute! I wish I would have went a little bigger width wise but it works for me since I have a small area I'm working with. I liked it so much I'm going to make one more for the other side of my vanity. If/ when I ever need more space I will definitely make sure they are wider. We are FINALLY getting our new IKEA opening in our town next month. Up to now Ikea is in 3 towns around us, but each town is roughly 50miles from us. I have a MASSIVE IKEA shopping list, and I do mean it when I say massive. Our bedroom is done now and I'm ready for my dresser/vanity to appear. Honestly it's ridiculous how excited I am! These shelves are so cute, I can screw mine to the wall as we own our house. So I might go with extra sets to make storage all around my mirror.

Funny thing is the ikea shelf is made out of particle board (hate it) and this is actually a real wooden shelf but cheaper. Love it! More work but still worth it if you have the tools and skills

I love it! I've seen tutorials where these shelves are made from boxed pictures and e6000 glue. They were more for looks. This is great everything was inexpensive but the result looked really nice. Please do more of these videos

Command Strips are my life. My room is covered in them. I know we are allowed to nail where I live and where I'm moving but I don't want to put a bunch of nails through someone else property so I just don't do it. Not that theres anything wrong with that. I just know, with all the crafting I do, I would destroy the place with nails. :D

Hey beth! Since you wanted feedback i would recommend to do switch it up from Dollar Tree here and there but def never stop making DT diys and always keep it as cheap as you can. We are all struggling lol. You can even make it a series to where you do the non dollar tree diy once or twice a month to give yourself a break..Cant wait to see your Halloween decor diys and for the Holidays! 👍
