I bought this kit a week before I collected my model 3 rwd 2024. All the other videos on this fitting and the supplied instructions are rubbish compared to yours. @@theimperfecttesla quick update. Tried fitting it today. Failed. The soft close mechanism is too long On my 20024 highland China build it has a large plastic tube like fitting running along just below where the lock fits so unable to line up the bolt holes. Emailed satonic. Hope they can help.

@barriewhite9733 ahhh looks like they changed things with highland. There’s a soft close option for highland. If you didn’t get that, maybe Satonic can swap it for you. Thanks for the update. Much appreciated

Good video, thanks! It has helped me a lot in the installation on my Model 3 (SR 2023). By the way, you should mention that the positive cable connection is different on the 16V Model 3, in the video you show a Model Y. The kit is prepared by default for the Model Y, but it has a terminal and screw for Model 3. In addition, the motor must be mounted lower, otherwise it will touch the bucket frunk.

Thank you! Used your video to install this on my '21 model Y and everything went well! Even covered the +/- wires in a loom to blend in with the others. Think you can make a video on how the emergency pull cable works? My cable doesn't seem to manually open the frunk, so unsure if user error :P

Thanks for the feedback, glad it helped. I’ll look into the emergency pull cable. When I installed my auto frunk, the cable didn’t work either and just like you, I thought user error and I plan to go back and test. I actually forgot to test on the soft close so I’ll do that and let you know how it goes.

I mean, its my idea before removing the power frunk to shut down the battery, if you have a better solution, I'll do it. In any case my tesla mod y 2022 has got a 16v. I agree about what you said. The "Tesla Man" told me that they are not able to chek properly the system if there is installed something or an item no Tesla.

That sucks. You can disconnect the frunk closer without disconnecting battery. You’d just have to the positive connection first and you should be good. @@theimperfecttesla Hi, just an update, I've done the job, disconnected the satonic power frunk starting from the positive, every thing went perfect. On monday I go to the service for the sensor, that has to be changed under warranty. I let you know.Thanks

Yes, the V2 has the emergency release cable

I actually went back to go test the cable and you’re right, it did work for me either. I’ve reached out to Satonic to ask why it wouldn’t work and I’ll post back once I have an answer.

@007silverwings I don’t think it does anything I asked Satonic and they said it’s for if the motor is blocked not for opening the frunk 🤷🏽‍♂️ If you look at the setup though, the mod is not a lock. You’re simply attaching a sensor that activates the lock. The lock is still Tesla.

You can't just let the hood drop? Like on other cars?

No, not really. The hood is lighter and has hydraulic struts that won’t let it drop under its own weight and by the time it gets to the point where it can drop, it’s not enough to fully close.

If you do drop it with the soft close system, will it damage the mechanism? I'm worried because I wouldn't be able to tell everyone that ever uses my frunk not to let it drop if that could damage it.

@decadentitian9376 I actually tested this and when I dropped it, it did not slam. The hydraulic struts slowed it down enough that the hook made contact but not a strong one. That contact was enough to activate the soft close and it finished the work.

how about if the secondary actuator it wont open the release cable can open it ?

The cable is supposed to open it but I just tested mine after another comment and it did not open it. I’ve reached out to the company for updates about that. I’ll post back once I have a response.

i was watching again your video installation why the release cable wont work and i see the problem. you installed backward the motor the release cable bent so you cannot pull all the way try to reverse the motor make sure release cable is straight to the motor

@@theimperfecttesla i order the item last week and i use the code you told on your video. untill now i dont recieve it yet..But for sure thats your problem reverse the motor and pull the cable make sure you can pull all the way. The release cable is for first actuator how about if second actuator wont open . Do you think the release cable can unlock both? tesla they have 2 actuator in the frunk

@jbbeltran379 cool. I’m sure you’ll get it soon. The emergency cable connects to the latch mechanism. I think if you pull all the way, it will unlatch both. When I test, I’ll let you know

No, you don’t. I actually spoke to a Tesla tech about mods and warranty. The only way you lose warranty with a mod is if that mod caused the damage and they have to prove that. Ultimately, it’s up to you and how comfortable you feel. For me, worst case scenario, I take off the mod before going to Tesla for related warranty work 🤷🏽‍♂️

You would basically just do the same steps as installing except you're disconnecting instead of installing. Let me know if you're asking about something else.

Ok, thank you. First of all I have to start from the power, I mean the red cable and after as follow as from the first things about installation procedures, is it right?

Basically yes. Disconnect power, unmount latch and disconnect the cable, reattach Tesla latch, unmount motor and that should be it. Be sure to align the Tesla latch back in original position best as possible, hopefully the sharpie markings are still visible to help with that.
